Serves them right. When they won here last season it didn't take them long to fill up youtube videos saying we didn't have the xfactor, speeches from hitler and stupid murray videos. We sent them packing yesterday. There will be quite a few supporters crying in to their cereal bowls this morning. It feels great to have got one over on them. Enjoy the moment because they would do the same.

Not entirely sure, I'm all for high profile policing but surely policing methods have moved by now ? Personally I think it's an issue with the police rather than a few rock apes. A few years ago I happened to be staying at a hotel in Austria and got talking to a Met police officer. He openly admitted that officers in the Met enjoyed policing football as it "was the only time they could put the boot in and get away with it". I've had a similar conversation with a Welsh officer a couple of years ago.

I'd suggest the problem lies with the mentality of the police rather than any real issue with football supporters. British Transport Police are some of the worst. Maybe if these types of operations were run by officers that actually appreciated football rather than the idiotic "hard nut" officers just looking for their stripes we, the football supporters, might be treated in the correct manner - i.e. not treated as criminals when we've done nothing at all.

But surely this is a reaction to the trouble last year outside the station? Had that not happened, maybe this would not have taken place? Last year the policing was criticised as naive, this year it was harder but appeared to work.

Sadly, it is the nuckleheads that drag everyone down, always has been and always will be until they disappear from football entirely. It is sad.

The Police got it totally right this year in my opinion. Last year was a shambles.

This, a few Danny Dyer types wanted to cause trouble but were pulled away by the police. Only 5 arrests too - perhaps the Met should take a look at how you should really deal with fans.

And with their fans moaning, they were held for 15 minutes, we were held outside Selhurst last year for 45 minutes !! Hardly that bad !!

exactly. last year the policing was softly softly, they escorted the palace fans from the 'spoons to the station while they caused grief to others, and they decided to play silly buggers after the game. not 1980's, 2012. so this year they get frog marched up to station, held behind for a train to stuff them all on and ship them back. as some of thier own fans said, dont go in to town, just go straight there and you wont have the bother.

that said there is an issue with an element of the police who look forward to football games for a bit of fun, but if they arent given any reason to most will just be happy for the overtime.

Sounds like they did have a great time

Today was a shit day moreso because of this bollocks than the result. What is normally a 5 minute walk took about 45 minutes. I went to the toilet just before leaving spoons and almost pissed myself that's how long it took. Then as has been mentioned everyone rushed at the gate and I got crushed against the turnstile. Then waiting afterwards in the pissing rain topped it all off. I appreciate they have to take measures to keep the supporters segregated but stuff like this just seems to wind up supporters and inflame the situation.

"I wasted £100 on a hotel room in brighton another £100 on drink, whole weekend a complete waste of money, only good thing i did was stay in the ground until it stoped raining and get the 14.40 train back to brighton, saw some seaweed fans melt when turned on by a few Palace, which made me smile....but all in all the worst away day iv'e ever had ever. And Holoways comments made me wonder why i bothered. i can handle wasting good money, but seeing palace players getting laughed at by that lot, being laughed at as we leave the ground, that f***ing hurts, feel numb today, feel totaly numb with shock, going to take a long time to get over this one."

As funny as all that is to read given the experiences of going to Selhurst in recent times, if the accusations about police just opening up the gates and letting everyone in to avoid a crush is true then that is pretty shocking and indefensible.

Personally I find it a sad reflection on both football and the mentality of the police towards football supporters that the situation in the photo arose. Seriously, how do a few knobheads from both sets of supporters manage to turn the clock back to the 80s ? Palace or not, football supporters should not be subjected to such idiotic and frankly unfair policing methods.

That type of policing just inflames the situation.

**** awaits a flaming ****

Quite right.... the key being they are the authors of their own destiny.
Unfortunately the majority suffer from the threats of a few neanderthals on both sides to cause trouble.

As for " palace fans eing made an example of over homophobic abuse" ....... there is a simple solution!

To correct a slight myth there, the vast majority of the hundreds of officers on duty yesterday weren't on overtime. They just have their day off cancelled.
