Palarse winning the cup would seriously tarnish the reputation of the whole competition.
Agreed.

The competition has undergone somewhat of a renaissance over recent years.

The last thing anyone needs is it being relegated to two-bob status again.

I read that as the opposite.

"What if the winners qualify for the Europa League via domestic competition?
If the Conference League winners qualify for the 2025/26 league phase of the Europa League through its domestic competitions, the vacancy created is filled by the club with the highest individual club coefficient of all the clubs that qualify for the main path or play-offs of the Europa League. That club must be either the domestic cup winner or the highest domestically ranked club from its association that has not already qualified for the league phase of the competition directly."

So if the winners finish in a Europa spot in their league, the "winners" spot goes to the team in the qualifiers with the highest coefficient, not to an additional position via the league.
So this definitely means the ESPN article is incorrect (or would it in turn mean an extra qualifier place)?

If Chelsea winning and finishing 6th means there IS an extra European place up for grabs, as the Conference final isn't until after the final league matches, this could mean a club won't know whether they've qualified for Europe until after the end of the season.

God forbid the thought, but there could be a scenario where we're all cheering on Chelsea to lift a trophy.

If Newcastle finish in the top 5/6 doesn’t their Conference league place (by virtue of their EFL Cup win over Liverpool) bounce down a place?

I’m just wondering then if there’s a crazy scenario where we want to loose next Saturday?
nobody?

Can we save this sort of justifiable self-righteousness until after WE have won a trophy? I will tolerate them winning something only AFTER we've done it.
You are more generous than me.

I would tolerate them winning something, say League Two playoff final, after we’ve won five (5) major trophies.

The thought of them winning the FA Cup this season sickens me.

Lose the Cup final, lose Glasner to Leverkusen, lose Wharton & Eze to Man City/ Liverpool and Guehi to Newcastle and find rare archaeological relics ( Hodgson possibly) where they need to put the foundations of their new stand, which sets it back a further ten years, by which time the proceeds from player sales will have inflated away compared to the increase in building costs.
On top of that Suzanna Reid to get sacked for inappropriate texting to Trump.
Anything else I may have missed?
Eddie Izzard to be outed as a horse and Faridge to be outed as Kermit.
