You may think things are bad in the UK,but here in Spain there are banks who are not letting people have their savings out.
A mate of mine has over a hundred grand tied up in CAM bank bonds which were supposed to be 100% guaranteed. He has been told he can't touch them until January, and when he can they are likely to be massively devalued.
Tens of thousands are in the same boat and it isn't the sort of thing they tell you is going on.

If they're not careful there'll be a run on the bank like the end of Mary Poppins!

As Hercules Rockerfeller says. They have done it to stop a run on the bank before it gets taken over in November.
I know a number of people who have their mortgage with the CAM bank and the bank won't let them have their own money to pay their mortgage and are threatening to repossess their houses.

I'm glad I don't have that sort of money to worry about!!!! I find it stressful enough trying to buy tickets from the Albion ticket website if I had to worry about losing hundreds of thousands of pounds it would blow my mind - thank god I'm poor!!!!

Having a bank official ask questions of why you need bundles of cash isn't necessarily a bad move....it happened to me,in Brighton,recently...as they might be ensuring that you,the customer, are not under duress, being blackmailed, extorted, threatened,or paying off some filthy pikey conmen who have fixed your guttering/resurfaced your drive and have frogmarched you to the bank to pay them off in cash.

An easy explanation, like buying a car or going on holiday,is all that is needed.

Of course,if a bank refuses to pay out a reasonable amount on request, then its time to worry!

Banks are also duty bound to report any unusual movements of cash either in or out.Remembering of course, that banks hate cash, and try and hold as little as possible.Large sums usually have to be pre-ordered these days.
