On my way home Talk Sport are doing a piece on Overated/Undertated players past and present, made me think what do people think of Albion players past and present? I thought Harding was overated!

I'd hesitate to rate ANY player under the age of 24, particularly players thrown into a Championship relegation struggle straight from a Youth Team.

... which leaves Charlie Oatway.

I guess we've rated him ABOUT RIGHT.

Gatting? How odd.

Overrated - Carole, slightly. Underrated - Henderson, it would seem! Also Nicolas, at least by McGhee, and going back a bit, Tony Browne.

Now there is a name from the past Willy Bell, back in the early 70s I used to deliver his newspaper in the Rotyngs, Rottingdean and remember he would come in a pay his papers and would chat with me. He was one of Freddie Goodwins signings?

only if you mean for birmingham when goodwin resigned and took him with him.
b.t.w.he and birmingham city stole a brighton pin badge design(two balls one white and one blue overlapping each other ,with the two shields of brighton and hove adorning each) and still use on their shirts.

Underated

Hammond - Currently the only first team player that would be capable of getting into the top teams in our division. He has a lot to learn still, such as shooting on site of goal. Everything that is wrong with him can be coached in, but what you cannot teach a player are those things that come by instinct and Hammond, more than anybody else, has these qualities. Like everyone else, I was extremely disappointed with his final couple of months of the season but he was living on a knife-edge because of all of his bookings (oh yes, his tackling needs a bit of refining!). Remember back to the start of the season though, when he was scoring goals by ghosting into the box unnoticed. He was still getting into those positions throughout the rest of the season but just lacked a bit of confidence when applying the finishing shot. His intended passes are usually spot on too but his execution can let him down at times. Decent coaching and a lot of practice can soon sort that out. Definitely underated.

Overated

Teddy Maybank - Well, for one game anyway. At the start of his first home game he ran down the right wing towards the North Stand, turned (his back was towards the North Stand), the ball came to him, he chipped it up an the ball span over his and his markers heads and he ran round the defender and crossed the ball in. It was probably the best thing he ever did but, for a few months, people just remembered that one brilliant moment and not all his very average performances. Although he was not a bad player I believe the likes of CKR and Jakey will eventually prove to be a lot better than him.
