All the above warrant a mention as does Mark Flatts who was brilliant in his month here on loan from Arsenal, shame we never signed him up.

Dickov was brilliant though!

Ive suggested Flatts as well but as the most disappointing loan signing ever.

In the last couple of seasons, our most helpful loanee has been Trevor Benjamin - he scored 5 goals for us last season, much needed in the play-off fight.

The best ever was Sergei Gotsmanov, possible the most talented player to ever put on the stripes. We signed him on loan from Dinamo Minsk as a winger, but an injury to Garry Nelson meant that he played as a striker. He had played for the USSR in the 1988 European Championships, and could dance around defenders at will.

Anyone who saw him play for the Albion will vouch for what I say, truly astounding player. There was one match against Swindon away (where Nicky Bissett was butchered by Duncan Shearer and effectively had his career ended) where it was like watching a ballet dancer on grass, the way he skinned their defence.

Sadly Southampton offered Dinamo £150,000 after seeing him play for us, as well as higher wages, but it did not work out for him there, and he buggered off to Germany

I have a hazy recollection of an away game with a chant of "our Sergei's better than your Sergei" - can't remember who we were playing - I used to get quite drunk at away games


Whilst on the subject of exotic loan players was Stefan Iovan on loan? He was somewhat poor - particularly against Notts County

That was against Ipswich when they had Sergei Baltacha (elana's dad) in their team. Stefan Iovan never really showed his real class playing for us - surely the only player ever to win the European Cup & The Sussex Senior Cup.

Yes he was one of our best signings but i would argue not best loan
