Don't be put off, just walk a little further up the high street (towards the prison from the town centre) and the crowds soon thin out.
My garden backs on to the commercial square bonfire site so i shall be having a few mates over, bark up the barbeque and consume vast quantities of carlsberg export whilst watching the fireworks
Infact, we can see all the ariel firworks from all bonfire siyes from our garden
Anyone for a burger
My wife and a lot of mates are in the waterloo procession and i've just been to the firesite....it'll be VERY muddy due to the flood defence work which should finnish tomorrow.
It's going to be a real nice evening weather wise so i would expect it to be packed in Lewes, especially as it's on a friday too.

Just remember that if you are from out of town the societies don't really care if you see it or not.
To many bonfire members those that come to watch are just in the way, and they consider that if you were serious about bonfire you would join a society and walk on the 5th. You get a much better view at the fire site as well if you are in the procession.
The War Memorial is often the best place to see the processions but it gets very crowded.
I have never been, but always wanted to having read about it. But I watched a police programe on the 2002 event there and it did look pretty busy. Also I don't have much money and live in Northern Sussex. So I give it a miss.
Just a bit of info for those wishing to travel via train to Lewes
Services will be EXTREMELY busy if you are travelling from Brighton/Seaford/Eastbourne/London after about 4pm.
Revenue Pretection Officers will be at all stations and tickets must be purchased BEFORE you travel.
A strict queing system will be in operation for trains departing Lewes all evening, and basically anyone trying to jump the queue won't be getting a train home.
I'll be there, mother in law, wife and daughter all members of Commercial Square. Mother in law lives in East Street so can watch the final processions after midnight from the front door also won't have to drive home
