Am very pleased that the Oscar love-in that happened straight after the event has died down. Interesting that Mrs Steemkamp has spoken to the overseas press and not the SA press. Personally, and my opinion only, is that his story is a huge crock of smelly stuff but difficult to prove that it isn't, I would think.

We can assume she didn't put this clothing on in order to get up and go to the toilet. This then raises the question of whether 't-shirt and shorts' is likely to be the nightwear of choice of your typical supermodel? Even less one in an intensely loving relationship with her new Olympian boyfriend, as he suggests was the case.

The only people he has paid so far are his lawyers and allegedly the SA Revenue Service, who knew nothing about some of his assets that he declared at the bail application, so they sent him a hefty bill.
The SA judiciary is not corrupt, if that is what you are implying. There is no way that they will let anything underhand effect this case, particular as they are still trying to extradite Dewani. There may be some incompetence along the way, but no corruption.

This is probably not the popular opinion on here but I still believe (or maybe want to believe) that it was an accident. At the end of the day, what could he have possibly gained from doing it? He had the world at his feet, and was a hero to many people (myself included). Seeing him at the paralympics last year was a massive highlight for me.
I have a couple of SA friends who lived in Jo'burg and they said that they used to sleep with guns next to their bed because it was so dangerous, even in the compound areas where there were security guards around - because the security guards were often in on it. Burglars wouldn't just come in and nick a couple of things, often break ins were extremely violent so I can sympathise with the view that he was intensely paranoid about this happening, heard something from the bathroom, and to protect him and his girlfriend he shot towards where the noise was coming from.

I watched the doc on C5 the other night and the way I see it, based on the facts as they told them. He hasn't got a leg to stand on.

So if Ben woke up and thought there was an intruder in the house and grabbed his gun. Would you expect him to make sure he knew where you were first and that you were safe?
If he did kill her, I'm sure he was not thinking logically at the time whether he was going to gain anything from it.
Before the tragedy there were signs that things were not ok with Oscar. He reacted badly and unsporting when being beaten in a race. He discharged a firearm in a restaurant missing his friend's foot by an inch two weeks before.

He has admitted to killing her - that is not in dispute. It was whether it was murder or not that is the issue.
BAG's post highlights a problem with much of SA society. Paranoia. Which is what OP's family effectively stated after the shooting. He was scared and SA is unsafe and everyone sleeps with one eye open holding a gun. All of which is utter poo. It was established a couple of weeks after the incident that there had been 3 "incidents" in the estate where he lives in the last 5 years. Hardly an unsafe estate. And don't forget he was sleeping with his balcony door open as he got up to close it! Hardly unsafe. I'm afraid that stories of incidents get circulated and people of a certain disposition use them to feed their paranoia and also, if they are that way inclined, use them as an excuse to highlight how awful majority rule is (not that I am implying that this is what happened here, but it does happen). Stories of security guards being in on crime are rife, but it does not actually happen very often. If the crime in this country was as bad as some people make out, there would be hardly anyone left alive here. Crime is bad, but nothing like as bad as some people say.
Enough of that. I just hope that justice is done in this case for her family.
