I might but Tony Bloom won't. He needs Premier League footy asap to start getting a return on his investment. The Championship is a money pit.

At some clubs - Wigan under Martinez, for example - the manager determines the playing style of the youth teams as well as the first team. At other clubs who have a director of football, head of football operations, call it what you like, that person hires the coaches at the levels below the first team and therefore determines how those teams will play, while the head coach/first team coach concentrates on the first team.

Oscar has spoken in a number of interviews about La Masia, the Barcelona way, and their youth development methods. And we know he coached in Barcelona's youth system. It would, therefore, be great to think that when he has finished working with the first team at Lancing he will have time to see what the under 17s or under 18s are up to. Or that in the close season he will work with David Burke on a comprehensive vision for inculcating the Oscar way (whatever that actually is - NSC seems somewhat divided on that at times) into our academy prospects.

But isn't it a fact that the whole point of a director of football - head coach structure is to ensure continuity when a coach, er, "moves on", so that the whole ethos of the club and its coaching, scouting, etc, isn't turned upside down every time a new manager is appointed (as happened at Leeds when Neil Warnock came in, as an excellent interview with Mervyn Day in the current Backpass points out)? So really the director of football has the responsibility for ensuring that the club's preferred footballing identity (as determined, we presume, by TB) is preserved.

And we must assume that TB wants us to play the Poyet-Oscar passing game, and that therefore Burke, acting on TB's wshes, will only employ like-minded coaches for the academy. But I also assume that Oscar will have his hands full with the first team.
