Orlandi and David

Didnt want Spanish Dave re-signed in the first place, in fact I was slated a fair bit for saying so on here - but I have been proven correct.

Not really proven correct.. on all the evidence you had at the time, not re-signing Lopez would have been a mistake. He was POTS for the second half of the year, you can't just let that walk out the door.

Spanish Dave is not a winger. This has been proven time after time, and his short cameo in the centre of midfield against Ipswich before Buckley got injured showed he still has something. Orlandi just really didn't want to get injured again, which is why he didn't go into tackles or work hard, which although understandable after his whole season of injuries, isn't acceptable in a game like yesterday.

Agree with this. I didn't think he was playing badly on the wing he doesn't have the skills to be a winger. He is a playmaker/attacking midfielder and it looked obvious to me where he should be playing. he was then given 20 minutes against Ipswich before being shoved back on the wing and then hardly seen since

Orlandi has an excuse. David doesn't.

Will we see either next season? Doubt it.

Personally however I'd give Orlandi another chance to get fit and have a go. David has had what, two (?) good games all season and has been well off the pace otherwise. No chance I'd offer him anything. We got half a season out of him and whilst it was a great half a season, he's done so little this year that I can't see him regaining that form and realistically we need to shape up and ship out

I'd say Lopez's excuse is he was played out of position for all but 20 mins

David Lopez showed an inability to kick with his left foot: a serious deficiency in his position and he did not have the pace to make up for it. I thought his crosses in some matches were above average. I don't think David Rodríguez could kick with his left foot either. So much for the Spanish players being more technically proficient? Obika did not seem to be able to kick with either foot!

Orlandi: left-sided midfielders are not that easy to get hold of.

Get rid of both, we cannot afford any more injury prone passengers in the squad

Could not agree more, I can handle it when a player gets a serious injury like CMS, but these players that always have little niggles do my head in.

Time to get rid, and getting rid of both is the correct call.

Pace is a huge issue in this league - Derby being an example of what that pace can achieve. Instead, Orlandi and Lopez need the type of space and time and which they are just not afforded in the Championship.
So what are you left with? Dead ball specialists? Last year maybe, but this season the delivery has largely been woeful when they have been on the field.
What next - commitment and aggression? That ain't gonna happen either so not really sure what they add any more I'm afraid.

Well said.

Pace means so much these days, in the PL and overseas as well. A midfielder or striker without great pace, can only get away with that if they are immensely gifted in other parts of their game (Vicente).

Regarding Orlandi, his injuries and fitness ready is shocking. Not his fault. But with a precious and finite budget especially with FFP, we cannot afford to be paying fantastic wages to passengers.

I knew that much, just didnt want him re-signed myself and the club didnt want him either, but then realised they couldnt find any replacements and made a slightly embarrassing u-turn.

We did pretty well under Gus without playing with pace. Just because it works for Derby doesn't mean other styles won't work in this league.
