Opposition to Race Hill P & R

Craven Hill residents association are objecting to a 700 P & R car park at the race course on the grounds that there are problems with the No 2 bus which cannot cope on bank holidays when the market is in operation.

Not sure what that has to do with the P & R scheme which will operate it's own buses. Think they may have misunderstood.

As an aside, are cars going to be parking on the grassy areas there as well as the gravel, as they do during the bank holiday markets ?

Just a slight concern that with it being used regularly during the course of a season, those not driving Range Rovers might start to struggle a bit if things start churning up there through the winter months.

I wondered why we hadn't been asked to write and support any more planning applications recently, such as this and indeed the signs to go on the AMEX. Are they just formalities?

I'd say they must do, as you'd never get 700 cars on the existing hardstanding and to tarmac over some of the grass would require another planning application.

Mmm, thats what I thought.
All well and good during the sunny summer/autumn months, but hundreds and hundreds of cars regularly parking on grassed areas could get tricky if we get a wet winter. It'll turn into a bog.

Indeed... and the same goes for a lot of the farmers fields around Falmer which could well turn into "carparks". At least with the chalk geology it'll remain drier than it would elsewhere.

The parking for those 25 out of 365 PART-days a year will be within the Race Track land.

And traffic will be to/from from many routes e.g. Tenantry, Manor, Pankhurst, Elm, Warren.

not just Craven Vale; so very little impact on that Estate.

This is the chance of the Local Comm Assoc to briefly get some publicity in whinging and get 15 minutes of fame (albeit in the rag Argus).

You know what pisses me off the most, go around on Luton on a matchday, these people have nothing to complain about compared to that.

Notters, they are mainly formalities that aren't worth creating a fuss over. It's not worth sending it thousands of letters and ending up pissing the planning admin team off!

Why would you drive from Saltdean or Rottingdean to park miles from the ground and then catch a bus ? I would suggest a direct bus might be a better bet.

Incidentally the recreation ground opposite the cricket ground in Rottingdean, would make a lovely park and ride site for a couple of thousand cars. Anyone think the Parish Council might be interested in supporting this one ?
