Is that ever any different though? Last season was Hull followed by Swindon. Big games are rarely scheduled for August- the clubs don't want it because many people are away on holiday.

Almost certainly. In 1991 we had Tranmere Rovers first game and Notts County had Manchester United. That's been indelibly stamped on my mind ever since.
