I take it you hav'nt got any knowledge of train planning as you cant just arrange a train service around a football match that could have 3 different finishing times.

so people are suggesting that non-football passengers should be delayed because of a football.. that will really help with your proposed extension application

A sporting event with 17000 and the train companies dont plan for the need for extra trains, so people have to leave early. Not good enough, no excuses, just get it sorted out.

How can you post this when you clearly were NOT at the game. The train system worked better than ever last night , and this was when it was tested to close to its maximum as it was a late finish.

Your moaning over something that didn't even happen!!!!!!???

Privatised train companies have no incentive to put on extra trains, which costs them money. If the punters have already bought tickets, the companies don't care whether they have to stand or leave events early. The railways aren't a public service any more, they are a business. Get used to it or vote in a Labour government that will re-nationalise. Oh, wait ...

Got back home to Worthing at 11.20, around the time I'd expect given the match didn't finish until 10.20.

Only slight question I'd have was whether the stadium announcements about limited capacity on the trains after 10.30 prompted more people to leave early – or go on a mad dash at the final whistle (as we did) when there was really no need as most were travelling locally?

As I mentioned on another thread I dont know but wonder whether it would be viable or even possible to run a train direct Brighton . Falmer . Gatwick possibly on to Clapham Jct after all games mid week or Saturday.

ive just discovered that fans traveling back to Uckfield or Crowborough have to leave for the 22:00 train, change at East Croydon taking over two hours! they should really be considering reopening the Lewes-Uckfield line to accommodate.
Just to accommodate a few dozen football supporters for no more than a couple of evening cup games a year?

That project would cost more than the stadium did.

I've come back home.
I thought it was gonna be utter chaos last night and i said this to Mr Celebration the Edler. I even got on my high horse and pretty much told him i could run a better service blah blah blah.

Well i had to eat humble pie as the trains ran very well. The delaying of the Brighton 2248 (?) to 2257 was a good call as this ensured that everyone could get away without a significant wait. The staff at Falmer was pretty helpful so thumbs up all round on what was probably the networks worst nightmare.

Southern held trains at Falmer when they heard the game had ended . An Eastbourne to Victoria 12 car was diverted to call at Falmer. Additonal trains were arranged but were not required as the crowd had gone. So the allegation that nothing was done is just not true.

I think some people have got the wrong idea about public transport, It's not up to public transport companies to work time table's around what people are doing it's up to people to make arrangements around the time tables.

It could be argued that as long as fans using public transport reach the limits of the travel vouchers by close of service on evening games then the club and transport companies have done as much as they need to do really, Responsibility from there on is down to the individual.

Trains were absolute;ly fine last night.

Left the ground , queued up for no more than ten minuteds, safely put on to the platform, train waiting to take us into brighton. Got into Brighton about 10.50 - two trains going to London to choose from. Was home at 11.15.

Pretty damn good in my book. well done Southern!

Lord B as the man who knows about these things could they run a train direct Brighton Falmer Gatwick Clapham.

No, because Falmer is in the opposite direction to Gatwick from Brighton. To go from Brighton to Gatwick via Falmer you'd either have to carry on to and through Lewes and then get the train onto the right line to go up to Gatwick via Cooksbridge, Plumpton et al (not even sure if its possible to get the train onto the right line without causing all manner of other chaos) or go from Falmer back to Brighton, then up from there.

A simple glance at a train map would surely tell you its not possible/feasible.

yep, if still publically owed they'd have put on a dozen trains as required, for as long as it took to clear the crowd. the old British Rail would have put on a series of direct non-stop sleeper trains from Falmer to Sunderland too.

Exactly I don't know where this crap came from but as soon as it was extra time a revised train plan came into operation.

Often done when it's engineering work or problems on the main line, no problem at all running via Lewes. Just have to change ends at the junction.

Sometimes I get a train to London, that goes to Hove first, and then leaves Hove going in the oppositie direction. So if you get on at the back of the train, you end up at the front of it after one stop.

Not sure how the signals work at Falmer, got a feeling that due to having to cross the bridge for platform 4 that would mean you might have to go beyond Lewes and then up to London. It might be workable in that sense, although I'm not sure there is much point. Works fine changing at Brighton.
