ON THIS DAY

Relegated to the Fourth Division

The 1962-63 season, which saw the worst winter in living memory, finally came to an end with a 0-0 draw at Wrexham. It was a good result, but it came much too late to help Archie Macualay's beleaguered side, which had been relegated to the Fourth Division in the previous game.

Nobby Upton played last game for Albion

In 1966 Albion lost 1-0 at Oldham Athletic in the Third Division five days after beating the struggling Lancastrians 3-1 at the Goldstone. In goal was Glyn Collins, a 20-year-old who was signed from Cinderford Town a few weeks earlier. He made one more appearance before being released. Nobby Upton, who had broken his leg twice, made his first-team come-back, but it was his last Albion game.

Albion manager announces team for the F.A. Cup final.

In 1983, Albion manager Jimmy Melia announced his team for the F.A. Cup final. It was: Moseley, Ramsey, Pearce, Grealish, Stevens, Gatting, Case, Howlett, Robinson, Smith, Smillie; sub. Ryan. Gary Howlett had just ten senior games to his name.

Have not posted on here for a year or more but could not resist this thread.

I played a couple of seasons with Nobby Upton for Knowles in the Sussex Sunday League in the late 70's. Even then the class and experience of an ex-pro put him head and shoulders above the average Sunday morning clogger. Most memorable game was the day he persuaded Wally Gould (who was on holiday from South Africa) to turn out for us as well. Opposition did not know what hit them!
