Oldham Athletic boss Iain Dowie is the latest candidate to be linked with the vacant managerial post at Reading.

Dowie is continuing to work wonders with The Latics despite the terrible financial conditions that surround the club.

He was linked with being Glenn Roeder's successor at West Ham before Royals boss Alan Pardew defected to Upton Park.

After saying that he did not want to move to Stockport County to replace Carlton Palmer, Dowie could now be in line for a step up to Division One with Reading.

Dowie is trying to stay loyal to the Boundary Park side but the opportunity to manage a side that made the Division One play-offs last term may prove too good to turn down.

Royals chief John Madejski says that the club are close to appointing a new boss but there are some top names linked with the Berkshire hot-seat.

Deposed Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle is said to be high on the list for Madejski, while experienced international boss Miroslav Blazevic has applied for the job.

The likes of Tony Adams, Ronnie Moore and Bryan Robson are also said to be interested in the job of leading The Royals into the top-flight, and Madejski is set to make up his mind this week.

I am but they're too concerned with the Premiershite as usual. It's all about Leeds and Peter Reid definitely staying.
