Think you will find it was under review prior to Kraft take over.

My children will be gutted. They loved going to Cadbury's World in Bournville.

Such a shame this, when you realise that factory's history.

What is it with Poland though? Terry's chocolate has been made there for some time, and has lost the "Of York" badge in the middle of the "Y." I believe Mars has transferred a lot of it's manufacturing to the country.

Is this just a matter of finance, or can the product be better made in Poland?

Cheaper, innit, but still within the EU so not subject to any trade restrictions.

I think Bourneville is safe at the moment. It is the Bristol Cadbury factory they are going to shut (although I haven't read the stories linked above - I am going by yesterdays news).

Yes it was. Cadbury had already set-up a plant in Poland and nearly all the production lines were finished. It was too far advanced to be stopped, so this had sweet F.A. to do with Kraft.

But, hey-ho, don't let simple facts get in the way of a good headline.

This.

Good ole British Cadbury had already consigned the Keynsham factory to closure, moving production and the associated jobs to Poland. There is little Kraft could do about it, with a factory now nearly good-to-go in Poland.

However, during the hostile move for Cadbury, Kraft did make soundings about trying to keep the Keynsham factory open, which is a bit naughty because, as above, there was little realistic chance of that being possible. And it's given headline writers an easy job to lay the boot into them already.

Can confirm that Bozza, is, as always, correct.

There was a big local paper campaign to keep the factory open last year, somehwat scuppered when they revealed that some woman who made Creme Eggs was on £34,000 a year, and by the looks of it, all the product she could eat.

On the naughty side, Kraft said they would keep it open when they came a courting, cue big celebrations when Cadbury's sold out...only for the kicker to come a week later.

Loads of sports pitches on the site, and under some covenant, so lordy knows what will become of the site.

I am already boycotting Kraft food...not over this, but because its crap.

Although I have nothing against any of them as individuals could they move a few of the Polish workers here back to Poland to take up said jobs OR take all the staff from Keynsham with them?

Was listening to Paul Miller on Radio Sussex on the drive home, sad I know as he is rubbish but not a lot of choice at that time of night, was harping on about a Chomp Bar that was made in Bristol and numerous people who phoned in agreed that they had never heard of them.

I love them and have done for years.

No phone in last night is that a sign of the future!!!

They did more than just make soundings Bozza - they we fairly clear in there lies that they would keep it open. Like you, living around here I've been able to keep an eye on this story as it has developed over the last 6 months or so. Kraft have acted despicably, which although is no great surprise, still leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. A bit like American chocolate.
