Let’s face it, the signing of Cashin was a total waste of time and money, I wonder what TB makes of that bit of business?
Possibly insurance in case first choices went elsewhere. We've hardly seen him play, maybe his numbers tell us something that cant be trained, whereas what's missing could be. Maybe I'm straw grasping.

Given that it's his algorithm and we've pursued him for 2-3 windows, it's either a glitch in the matrix or a symptom of a larger failing. It seems odd that he's fit the algorithm and then also passed the eye-test and still managed to cost £11m.

Maybe I'm being naive, but wouldn't it have been better to not bother with Cashin and use some or part of that £11m to try and get Boscagli in January for a cut price? I imagine there would be a multitude of obstacles though (player wanting to see out the season, club not wanting to sell when fighting for a title etc)

Ah the classic NSC trope of writing a player off after five minutes (not a literal five minutes, of course) :lolol:

There is a third option, that it’s quite wrong for people to write off a well-regarded young player after being thrown in the deep end against one of the best attacks in the league. It embarrasses me to read these comments about him. Can’t we give the guy a chance? I’ve always thought of us as a more tolerant, less knee jerk fan base than most but obviously not.

You'll get used to the wonderful array of opinions on NSC. Sometimes the full array reveals itself at The Amex too and even, although to a considerably lesser extent, in the away crowd.

I think it was a combination. We had a shot at Europe - but Dunk, Veltman, Igor, JPvH, Ferdi, Weiffer, and others missed matches with injuries. I think Cashin was an insurance policy for this season. The downside risk to TB is limited because Cashin will either a) earn a spot or b) be sold for something close to what TB paid. Logical “gamble” IMO

One of our former players was such a waste of money he was listed on Ebay for £1 by one of our supporters with a keen eye for football talent.

He made 187 appearances for the club in total.

One current NSC member took a long leave of absence and returned under a different alias, having spent a huge amount of time villifying "Useless Ashley Barnes" who would never make it beyond League One.

Yeah fair point. I actually haven't written him off, I was just responding to a comment that seemed to suggest that he wasn't good enough based on what we've seen this season.

I hope he succeeds and I want him too, but he was brought in because of a series of injuries to key players at CB. So far, he's yet to get past any of our centre backs and midfielders to get a berth in the side, which doesn't bode well.

I'm hoping that next season's n he goes into a defence with Dunk, Igor, Webster, JP, and Boscagli and provides genuine competition, but if not a loan would be a good step

Who was the player in the first story?

In the second story I know the original user name but not the new one - but probably best to leave that alone.

I don't want to be down on Cashin, but if was an insurance policy, then when we were down to just a single available senior CB, Fab choose to play somebody out of position rather than start Cashin.

I'd much rather have Cashin be a brilliant signing that goes on to have a solid career with us, but right now, I'm a bit baffled as to why we signed him. And now we seem to be in for more CBs. Trust Tony and all that, but...

Cashin won't be sold for anywhere near what we paid.

When the Derby fans heard £10m and said "take the money and run" that should have been a clue.

He'll probably stay here another year as backup and then back to the Championship for a couple of million.

Hoping of course that I'm wrong and he can prove himself capable at this level, but it seemed like an odd move right from the start.

He can't be officially announced until I imagine late June/July I believe because he's under contract at PSV until then.
Players contracts tend to end on June 30th.

A deal can be announced at anytime once agreed even if it isnt happening for months. It was announced before June 30th that both Milner and Dahoud would be joining us at the end of their respective contacts.

We are probably waiting for him to be available to do the holding up the shirt photos etc and that may well have to wait until when the new shirt is released. They may want to tie a new signing announcement into the release of the new kit etc.

Oh THAT'S who it was! I used to love battling with him about Ashley Barnes. There's was a group of chaps in the early Amex era who thought he was total rubbish. I got "BARNES 9" on my shirt simply to wind them up and much fun was had by all

He might be thinking:

'Early days. I remember paying Wigan £3m for a centre half who was older than Cashin, and who after a loan back and recovering from injury, joined us in January 2019 and didn't make his debut until August. That turned out alright in the end what with him playing 85 games for us, scoring the winning goal against the Champions, being sold for 5 times what we paid and then getting picked for England.'

So Dan Burn said Ashley Barnes was rubbish???

I may have skimmed through the last few posts a bit too quickly...

Regards Cashin, not every player will hit the gound running in the premier league...he even admitted himself it was an eye opener the pace of the game. He might adapt, but if it doesn't work out for him here, he'll still make a decent living from the game
