In an ideal world neither would be in a Championship team. OGH was one of the few good things about a trip to Gillingham but would struggle to get a look in today if we had up to standard strikers. McPhee has never really made it as a 1st teamer anyway.

   Hart does well in punching above his weight. It's an indictment of the team's quality or lack of that OGH is now in automatically, good luck to the fella. McPhee like that other local forward who ended up at Eastbourne 2 or 3 years ago - sorry can't recall his name. Anyone?

Les Bien - If you were manager would McPhee be starting?

I would at least give him or McCammon a run in the team. I feel that a targt man up front (even if he not the best) will open things up for our flair players (CKR, Robinson, Carole, Frutos) purely by holding the ball up more once it has been lumped up and generally give the attack more of a physical presence. McPhee or McCammon may not score many but I feel the others would score more with this team selection.

I cant believe im reading this thread! Harty is best at right wing but i would rather have him up front than mc phee any day! Mcphee has had enough chances and unfortuantely he hasnt shown he is good enough at this level.

I think the question could be should McPhee play over Gatting and should Hart be playing over CKR & Robinson.

With Hart and Gatting, we have no threat to get in behind teams as Hart is not the whippet he once was.

The unfortunate thing for McPhee is that whilst he is now much stronger than he was, the added muscle has seen him become prone to niggling injury. He also seems to be a player who lacks confidence (I vaguely remember him admitting as much in an interview). From the little I have seen of Gatting, he appears to be naturally strong and have that forwards swagger about him – which is why he is currently getting the nod.

The two advantages Hart has are his experience and his ability in the air. Unfortunately, the number of crosses we get in are minimal so negating the latter. IMO, CKR should forget about playing as a target man – he loses the ball too often with his back to goal. His strength and pace when running at goal are his biggest strengths. Robinson needs to play with a target man and be constantly looking to get behind defenses thus utilizing his speed and covering his physical short comings but he too appears to be lacking confidence at the moment.

If I where McGhee, I would stick with Gatting or McPhee (unless a Shipperly type player suddenly becomes available and there aren’t many out there) and partner them with either CKR or Robinson (unless we can get a goalscorer on loan to take the pressure off the inexperienced CKR & Robinson).

Most sensible thing I have read on here for a long time. Well said.
