Pubs in Barnsley?

I'm going up on Saturday - can anyone recommend any good pubs for Albion fans and where are we most likely to gather?

I'll be there at about 12 - says in the programme there's a Wetherspoons called The Courthouse Station. Its near the train and bus stations so unless anyone has any better suggestions .....

Beers cheap in Wetherspoons as well

I will try & get some info on pubs tomorrow. The Courthouse is a big Weatherspoons pub near the bus & rail interchange, but most of the pubs in town have a strict home only policy, or they do when I'm in town on a Saturday morning anyway. The pubs around the market are best avoided.

Knowing my old man, he'll opt for a couple of pints in the local working men's club before the game (the beer is much cheaper)!!!

As said by Emily's Mum I would advise to keep well away from pubs near the station and town centre

Away fans are housed in the new North Stand, where the facilities are good. The normal allocation for away supporters is 2,000 tickets although, if demand requires it, then the whole of this stand can be allocated (6,000).

Drinking in the town centre is generally not recommended, especially near the Bus & Train Stations. Paul Sammon, a lifelong Tyke, recommends the Outpost on Sheffield Road. The pub is a ten minute walk from the ground. Gary Holding a visiting Blackburn supporter adds; 'There was no alcohol on sale inside the ground for the away fans, but one minute away from the away end is the Metro Dome - an all in one leisure centre, which has a bar inside which serves good food and ale'.

How To Get There By Car & Where To Park

Leave the M1 at Junction 37 and take the A628 towards Barnsley. Stay on this road (the ground is well signposted) and you will eventually see the ground on your right. There is a fair sized car park located at the ground.

By Train

Barnsley railway station is about a ten minute walk away. This station is served by trains running between Sheffield & Leeds.

From the train station turn left away from the town centre and head towards the bridge that the dual-carriageway runs over. Go under the bridge and turn left up the slip road and then take the first road on the right and head towards the Metro Dome leisure complex at the top of the hill. The ground is now in full sight in the distance.

Got this reply when I asked on the rivals sight:

The Outpost on sheffield road about 5 mins from the ground is fine, it's a footy pub but friendly and welcoming to visitors.
If you want food, though, you'll do better to try the Metrodome Leisure Centre which is at the top of the visitors' car park at the ground. It's a glorified swimming pool but it does have grub and a decent bar, and again is very away-friendly.
Enjoy your visit - but not too much!
