A look back at a memorable goal for Albion against Cardiff City.
CARDIFF 1 ALBION 3
Will Hoskins
(17 August 2011, Championship, Cardiff City Stadium)
The player
Will Hoskins is a skillful former Rotherham and Watford forward. He impressed with two outstanding goals for Bristol Rovers in the Pirates’ 4-2 home defeat to the Seagulls in February 2011. In the summer, he signed for Gus Poyet’s newly-promoted side, aiming to make an impact in the Championship.*
The goal
With Albion already 2-0 up, Craig Mackail-Smith made a defence-splitting pass from the centre-circle in the 87th minute. Having come on ten minutes before, a fresh Hoskins raced down the right channel to expertly strike the ball inside the far post, past David Marshall.

Why this goal mattered
It sealed Albion’s 100% record, of three wins in their first three Championship games, putting the side second in the table. It was also Hoskins’ first for his new club. And now
Unfortunately, the forward’s time at the Amex was marred by injury. He was also loaned out to Sheffield United. However, the goal he scored for Albion in a 2-0 win over Newcastle in the FA Cup in January 2013 showed he had not lost his eye for goal. After being released by the Seagulls, Hoskins has since played for Oxford United and Exeter City.*
