The penultimate and pivotal month of April was upon Brighton & Hove Albion and a top-six finish was looking unlikely when the side headed to Ewood Park.
The month started with three long away trips in 10 days and the game at Blackburn Rovers couldn’t have started better when David Rodriguez hit his first goal for the club to put Albion ahead.
The hosts fought back though and the lethal Jordan Rhodes stabbed home soon after to bring parity to the contest and Tom Cairney put Rovers ahead before the break.
Gordon Greer had seemingly salvaged a point before an 86th minute penalty from Rhodes looked to have won it for the home side. But there was another twist in an extraordinary evening of football as just two minutes later Dale Stephens rose to head home a dramatic leveller.
From goals galore to a stalemate at Oakwell, as despite a long-awaited return from injury for Craig Mackail-Smith, Oscar Garcia’s side were unable to find a winning goal against Barnsley.
It seemed as if Albion were destined to miss out on the play-offs but an astounding result at already promoted Leicester City invigorated the Seagulls.
Stephen Ward got the ball rolling as he put Brighton ahead before Jesse Lingard headed home a second to give Oscar’s side a 2-0 lead at the break. Leo Ulloa then bagged a brace in the second half as Albion came away with a 4-1 win and three valuable points.
