A look back at some past connections/matches between Albion and Hull.
A handful of players have featured for both Albion and Hull City. Amongst these are forward Michael Ring. Here’s a player profile of the striker from his Goldstone days.
Ring played for Hull City in the mid-1980s under ex-Seagull captain Brian Horton. A blog entry here covers the encounters between the sides during this era, including two FA Cup wins for Chris Cattlin’s Albion side.The first of these came in 1984/85 when Brighton knocked Hull City out of the FA Cup on a frosty surface. Video footage from the third round encounter has been uploaded to YouTube.

A match report, looking at the cup clash from a Hull perspective, exists on the superb Amber Nectar blog.Ten years later, in similar conditions, Jeff Minton and Ade Akinbiyi scored for the Seagulls in an exciting 2-2 draw at Boothferry Park in 1994/95.
Finally, one the greatest acts of showmanship by a Brighton came against Hull City in 1990. Sergei Gotsmanov celebrated his goal before putting the ball into the net, and drew much amusement from Saint and Greavsie.
