Gus Poyet has warned his players against the Nottingham Forest strikeforce ahead of Saturday, namely Billy Sharp..
The Albion boss admitted that he’s an admirer of the former Doncaster Rovers star - on loan at the City Ground from Southampton - who was also the first player to score a competitive goal at the Amex Stadium.
Poyet told seagulls.co.uk, “He is a very good player and I like him a lot, he is also a very good finisher.
“We have seen him playing with Simon Cox up front and they understand each other fantastically; they link up well, they are difficult to mark and they interchange positions. They do plenty of things well and I really enjoy watching them both.
“Sharp is a very important player and if you don’t keep an eye on him he will score.
“As a club, Nottingham Forest are pushing. They are pushing with Premier League players which is a way of trying to go up, with a manager who likes to really play football by passing the ball and playing technical players.
“Every now and again they change their shape which is quite difficult to play against.”
Within Albion’s artillery is Craig Mackail-Smith and the Albion boss is convinced that there is still more to come from his top scorer.
“I said it at the end of last season and I said it earlier this season, I have no doubt that he is going to score more goals than he did last season. It was a new club, with massive pressure; he was the most expensive player, he needed to learn a different way of playing and it was hard for him.
“People think that we play a similar way to Peterborough. We care about the ball like them but we both play very differently. We are a lot on the flanks but they play down the middle. It was a matter of time for Craig.
“Some players need six months and some need two years but we just had to convince him that it was possible. If you get chances and you are a top scorer you will score.
“He scores goals and that is why he plays every week and it would need to be a very special game to give him a rest.”
