There have been a sparse number of meetings between Brighton & Hove Albion and Bolton Wanderers in the past, with Saturday the 16th in total.
Albion’s most recent trip to face Bolton ended in an undeserved 1-0 defeat as Marcos Alonso’s first-half strike was enough to separate the two sides last season. However, the game will be mostly remembered for former striker Ashley Barnes’s red card for tripping referee Nigel Miller in injury time.
That was the Seagulls’ first and so far only trip to the Reebok Stadium and was the first time in 19 years the blue-and-white stripes had descended on the home of Bolton.

The previous encounter came in January 1993 and saw Albion win 1-0, *but a year earlier it was the Trotters who came out on top 2-1 in an FA Cup clash.
January 1980 saw Brighton claim their first win in five attempts at Bolton, winning 2-0, while the last two contests had ended all square at 1-1.
Albion’s first ever visit to Wanderers was back in 1907 in the FA Cup where the Seagulls exited the competition in a 3-1 defeat but the next visit 17 years later was far less enjoyable as the Trotters won 6-1, the biggest winning margin between the two sides to date.*
