Eric Steele- Albion’s keeper gave a superb commanding performance including a wonderful stop from John Beck in the second half
Chris Cattlin- Cattlin’s recall to the side in November considerably strengthened the defence and laid the foundation to Albion’s rise up the table in the New Year.
Gary Williams- Had the tricky job of containing Ray Evans’s attacking prowess.
Brian Horton- Brighton’s captain was quick to leap to his team’s defence, especially after the heavy treatment meted out to Peter Ward.
Andy Rollings- Received a booking early on in the match. Nevertheless, he gave a superb individual performance to keep Chris Guthrie at bay.

Mark Lawrenson- Another classy performance that underlined his importance to the Brighton promotion push. Barely gave Peter Kitchen a kick.
Gerry Ryan- Was involved in the goal, making a good run and supplying Paul Clark
Peter Ward- Played his first full game since December and was in scintillating form, giving the Fulham defence the runaround with his speed and trickery. Had to cope with some rough tackling.
Teddy Maybank- Scored against his former side Fulham in the fixture last season, but could not do the trick here. Nevertheless, John Vinicombe of the Argus was full of praise for Ted who ‘covered every inch of ground in yet another show of tremendous endeavour.’
Peter Sayer- Unfortunately, Sayer was withdrawn after just fifteen minutes due to a very cynical foul.
Peter O’Sullivan- This season ended in promotion, the third of Sully’s career with the Albion.
Sub: Paul Clark (for Sayer 15 minutes)- This young midfielder earned a recall to the England under-21 squad in the week. He scored the only goal of this game, after latching onto the ball following Maybank’s decoy run.
