Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton hopes his players will rise to the occasion of facing play-off chasing Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Amex.

The Seagulls have won their last three consecutive games at home, including a 2-0 victory over promotion contenders Derby, and Hughton is aiming for a similar performance against the Black Country side.

He said, “You would like to think that Wolves coming here will get the best out of us and we’ll raise our game, but we’ve had some different types of performances here.

“For a period against Derby it didn’t look like we were going to win the game in the second half and, if they had scored in the first 15-20 minutes it would have been very difficult for us to get back into the game.

“When you’re up against the better teams you know that you have to be good defensively, because we know we can score a goal and that gives us the confidence to stay in the game.

The Albion boss also stressed how important it is for his players to keep their focus after scoring, as the side conceded a second goal against Reading just two minutes after Chris O’Grady levelled the scoreline from the penalty spot.

“I’m aware of it and it’s something I’ve spoken to the players about. We need to make sure our concentration levels are specifically good in that five minute period after we’ve scored because that’s the most emotional time; particularly in a game like Tuesday where we get back into the game - regardless of whether we deserved it – and in that moment you can’t start thinking about getting the winner.

“That a psychological part of the game - like thinking about getting the winner as opposed to making sure you’re solid - and it’s something we need to address.”

The Seagulls are now heading into the final strait of the season with just ten league games remaining, but Hughton says it would be foolish to predict how many points the side needs in order to maintain their Championship status.

“You go from one game to the next and if you’re thinking about reaching a certain figure or number of points, you can drive yourself mad. The league is too unpredictable at the moment and anyone can beat anyone.

“The teams at the top are there for a reason and the teams that are in the bottom group are there for a reason too, so it’s just about looking to the next game and we’ve got a very tough one on Saturday.”[h=3]ALBION V WOLVES
