Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Keith Andrews says the team are still fighting for a place in the end-of-season play-offs as they head to Premier League bound Leicester City tonight. The Irish midfielder feels Albion still have a chance of making it into the end-of-season shake-up - despite a disappointing run of results of late.
Sixth-placed Reading are five points ahead of Albion, but have a tough run-in, with Leicester, Burnley, Wigan and in-form Bournemouth in four of their last six matches.
He told Seagulls Player, "We still have six games to go and anything is still possible. As more teams have come into the hunt as we’ve stuttered in recent weeks, but the opportunity is still there for us and we can’t just let it fade away."We’re obviously disappointed with the last few weeks probably more so with the first three games in that block against Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough where we felt that we dominated each and every one of those games and came away with no points.* Barnsley and Blackburn would have been decent away points in different circumstances."
Andrews also sounded a note of caution to anyone expecting table toppers Leicester to be a different proposition after they clinched promotion over the weekend.
"There’s a record points tally at stake which they’ve been talking about in recent weeks.
"It will be a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium because they’ve been trying to get promotion for a few years now and have been at this level for a long time and to bounce back from the disappointment from last year shows they’ve got a great manager and a great squad of players.
"But the play-off places are never decided four or five weeks before the end of the season and we need to keep going. Who would have said two weeks ago that Bournemouth would have been within a shout of the play-offs?
"They’ve won a few games on the bounce now and are in a similar position to us. So we’ve had our bad run, but hopefully now we can turn a corner and go on a good run."
