I could almost believe the 17.55. What I cannot believe is the 30-34 age group!

I've come to a decision that I'm going to give running a bit of a rest for a while. My knee is getting worse and now isn't a great time to be on a knee replacement hospital waiting list. Parkrun is almost certainly going to be suspended too. I've had a few goodish runs this year so I've 'banked' a decent SB for the NSC table.

I'll keep monitoring the thread to check out the achievements of you guys and have the ambition of being able to walk down the stairs like a normal person! (I might be joining in the NSC fitness thread as I crank up the pull-ups and press-ups.)

Happy running lads - enjoy it while you can! (And don't rule out a sub 21 comeback at 65...……………….)

A very sad post. I think the break from running is a good idea. Have you had a prognosis on the knee surgery? Hopefully some TLC and a spray of WD40 will get you going again. Good luck with it.

Squeezing in a few SB/PB/AGPB edits to the Table.
Two sub 18 5Ks from Ninja Elephant 17:37 SB PB and AGPB and Blue&WhiteSea 17:58 SB
Guinness Boy is having a good tussle with Anchorman and edges back in front by a second and an AGPB.
DarrenFreemansPerm has joined the fun crossing over from the fitness thread and, like umost of us, will be hoping to get another Parkrun soon.
Good 20 mile effort from sjamesb3466 the legs obviously take to distance well and a good 20 mile effort from Ninja who stuck at it.
Lastly I'll abuse my power by stating that my 5K PB taken by Ninja Elephant was run when I was a veteran in my younger days of 36. My first 5K too.Grrr!

All the best, GNT. Don't be a stranger. Even when I wasn't running, I still found the thread an inspiration (of sorts) and it definitely helped me get back out there. Look after the knee and we'll look forward to the comeback!

Interesting. I'm 36 now, so I guess that's a target for me this year!

Congrats on great times Ninja Elephant and Blue&WhiteSea

On the subject of pulling back on the training, I can see myself still running at least 5 times a week given there's not much else to do. I'm just planning on enjoying my runs and not pushing myself like I have been with the marathon training.

Congrats on the parkrun PB Ninja! Great running! It's a massive shame the opportunity for you to hit a new height in the marathon (again) this time at Brighton, has been put on hold but rest assured the hard training over these months will still count for later this year. I'm sure you think the training for Leicester (I think?) brought about new gains into your training for Brighton. It's all about chipping away, building for the future and enjoying the process while you're at it.

I'm also dialling back on the volume and intensity and will just be running for fun. Working from home helps with that. To continue the training at the levels that I have been without it resulting in racing a marathon in April and with the current climate it's probably not sensible. I should be trying to keep my immune system as robust as possible. The stress we put on our body during a sustained heavy workload (marathon training) can result in it messing with your immune system and making you prone to picking things up.

I'm in for a 5k race in Hyde Park at the end of March and the Hackney Half in May but I think it's unlikely either of these will stay on. Plus the thought of heading into central London on the underground right now isn't particularly appealing.

Cheers Artie - I'm coming for you! But so is Blue&WhiteSea and given he's got history, he may be the bigger threat!

Without any doubt at all, the increased volume over a consistent period of time has been the reason for the massive uptick in performances over all distances. I've not done a massive amount of pace work and certainly none of it has been at the pace of my parkrun PBs. In the last 12 months, I've broken my 5k PB 6/7 times - it had been 18:23 since May 2017. Now I've got the better part of a minute ahead of that, although I need to run a formal 10m and Half Marathon in order to get table updates!

One thing is (hopefully) for sure - September and October will be brilliant months for running!

I definitely don’t believe that the indefinite postponement of Parkrun is not imminent.

Although I was impressed with Ninja Elephant following the social distance guidelines, 200 metres behind the front runner may have been overdoing it a little bit.

:lolol: Absolutely savage. I regret making some small amendments to your latest Facebook profile picture to make you even more cool, suave and dangerous!

I want to a stag do up in York a couple of years ago and dragged my incredibly hungover self to their parkrun course at the racecourse. Annoyingly, it was cancelled because they were setting up for a race meeting. I and about 50 of us ran the course, it just follows the service road inside the raceground and is perfectly marked with the start line, the KM markers and then the finishing line. Essentially 1.5 laps, it's a great course but counted for nothing!

I will probably take advantage of sleeping in nice and late on saturday morning if parkrun is cancelled. :lolol: I'm probably going to fall off the running wagon a little bit for a while.

Great run Saturday. You looked as if there is more to come.

Arena80 stopping all training and events from today.

England Athletics advises that all face-to-face activity such as club training sessions, events, competitions, club committee and face-to-face meetings, athlete camps, running groups and social events should be suspended until at least the end of April.

That'll be parkrun gone, as predicted.

I just hope people are sensible and don't undertake nudge-nudge-wink-wink "what were the chances of seeing you here?" informal runs at the same time (9am?) on the same day at the same place. Risk of spread is low, but there is still risk.

By all means run - I certainly will be - but do the right thing with it.

Agreed. I am going to run solo only and only if I feel 100%. I can't even see my Ultra being on in July now, BBC just said the new peak may not be till June/July.

Nice Work have had to postpone all of their events as well, which was largely inevitable. I think the only positive justification for this reaction is that if the virus can be halted now, we might get football and all sports back sometime in April.

What I don't understand is why that isn't the point being made publically? The media are covering the story 24/7 so why aren't they/Boris/football trying to pitch the quarantine idea to the general public as - you want sports back?! Quarantine now, let's kick the shit out of Covid-19, stop it in its tracks and then let's get back to the pub, get sports back on the tele, the darts leagues can resume and tennis can begin en masse once more. And as a final kicker, you'll get your parkruns back. You're welcome.

That argument would have got through to me. :lolol: Essentially, work have now mandated anyone with a laptop must stay at home so I'm isolating and looking forward to getting on the Downs for a nice run. I ran 6.75 miles this lunchtime, lovely route on a perfect day for running around.

Look chap, this is somewhat bigger than "getting football back".

I'd be surprised if football is back in 2020 - there's literally zero chance of it being back in April.

There's more chance of me beating you in a 5k race than there is of a Premier League football being kicked next month.
