Amid all the World Cup hoopla the Stanley Cup Finals continue. Great game, real edge of the seat stuff. Rangers really gave it everything, but it wasn’t enough. Well done the LA Kings on winning The Stanley Cup and to MVP Justin Williams.

Stanley Cup Final

Game 5

It was good Friday 13th for the LA Kings as they lifted the Stanley Cup with a Martinez goal in the second period of overtime. New York can feel a little hard done by after twice now taking LA to overtime at the Staples centre. They again had the lead going into third period but a PowerPlay goal from Marian Gaborik tied things up before that OT winner. New York had its chances to win Game 5 in overtime. Ryan McDonagh hit the post. Dan Girardi's deflected shot hit the post. Chris Kreider couldn't finish on a breakaway. Rick Nash's shot appeared targeted for an open net but hit the stick of Kings defenseman Slava Voynov and went wide. So the LA Kings win the Cup for the second time in just 3 years beating New Jersey in 2012.
