Latest update and suddenly everything has gone REALLY ROSY!!!!

After a poor draw with Bognor I finally decided that I had to do something with the tactics. So pushed my wingers up.

Final friendly home to Ipswich won 3-2 with a lucky penalty but were really outplayed and was not happy with Livermore.

So to first game of season... Oldham. Decided to play Soley in midfield instead of Livermore....

Half-time... 0-2... Whing has a mare giving away a penalty and had to haul him off. Decided the tactics still werent right so for second half abandoned counter attack and, switched to passing to flanks and went wider.

FINAL SCORE - 3-2!!!!!! included a fantastic goal form Jukkola (sic). Brill!!!

This was followed by....

MK Dons home Cup - 3-0 - totally one-sided

and

Tranmere home 3-0 - much closer but mainly because played last 25 mins with Forster and Elphick hobbling . Forster now out for a month so chance for Murray.

The team thats mauling everyone?

Murphy, Whing, Elphick, Virgo, Babyaro, Jukkola, Soley, Lansbury or Livermore, Luisma, Ignac, Forster.

Lansbury has been less than convincing and still not sure of Thompson.... Mascio has been a bit of a dissapointment despite the hype.

Have just accepted 100k plus 25% sell-on for Lynch. Need the money and he's not guaranteed first team. Will look for a loan cover defender instead I think. Hopefully I'll be able to convert this moeny to the wage bill.

Onwards and upwards! :)

I am GUTTED.

Ordered FM09 (with delight) after finally getting the money together. While waiting for it to arrive my friend also purchased it and I borrowed his copy for one night to get going.

Install it (on my not ancient but not new) Mac, and get a grey screen. OK, fair enough, go online and see there is a patch for this. Download that, and still not working. Go online and find out (to my fury) that you can only run FM09 on Mac Leopard, not Mac Tiger (Windows users, think Leopard=Vista, Tiger=XP).

Then I found out there was a way around THAT also. Thank goodness, finally.

Boot it up one more time and yet again FAILURE. Then go back online and it turns out you need an Intel Mac, not a PowerPC one.

Gutted. Back to FM08 for me.

Well it's all gone tits up for me :nono::(

Started the third season in the red, £8,000 over my wage budget :(. Elphick was valued at £50,000 and Dick Knight accepted an offer of £80,000 say it was too good to turn down. Adam El-Abd was then also unhappy and asked for a transfer, so had to let him go aswell. Got an offer of £50,000 for Andy Whing from Northampton which I regretably accepted, and got in Stephen Wright (free from Sunderland) as a replacement, he started ok but then ruptured his achilles so as ruled out for the rest of the season.

Got knocked out of all the Cup competitons in the first-round (Carling Cup losing at home to Playmouth, Johnstone's Paint losing away to Norwich and FA Cup losing at home to a very good Rochdale side).

Didn't win a game until after about 10 matches of the season, but I drew 5 so stood 20th in the table. Now after 36 matches, I find myself 19th trying to avoid relegation, but yet find my job is stable and the board believe in me. Had the chance to manage West Ham or Birmingham (both in the Championship) but I turned them both down.

With 10 games to go I am 5 points clear of the relegation zone, but I am conceding a vast number of goals :(

Current team:

Kelvin Davis

Steve Cook (youth team)
Lee Wilson (youth team)
Danny Swailes (free transfer)
Charlie Daniels (free transfer from Tottenham)

Kane Louis
Kane Wills
Paul Thirlwell (free transfer)
Doug Loft

Anthony Elding (£1k from Crewe)
Lee Hughes (re-signed on a free)

I also have re-signed Michel Kuipers as a back-up goalkeeper but I think he will become my number one again next season. Also got Robbie Savage on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest, although he is on £4,500 a week.

Sam Gargan is my top scorer at the moment with 10 goals, but he's out of the side after a bad run of form.

Denton what was the score?!?!

Finally, a chance to play again! And here I am on match day; Sunday 2nd May 2010 - last game of the season, and a chance to reach the playoffs.

Starting line-up versus Crystal Palace (H);
Darren Randolph (GK), Danny Senda (RB), Karim Laribi (LB), Tommy Elphick (CB), Stefan Stam (CB), Wade Elliott (RM), Lewis Neal (LM), Jonathan Douglas (CM), David Livermore (CM), Rhys Murphy (ST), Matty Fryatt (ST).
Subs: Andrew Whing, Billy Jones, Dean Cox, Nicky Forster, Nick Ayres

Jonathan Douglas strained his back midweek, and I decided to give him injections to enable him to play in this crucial game.
With Stephane Basle out for the season, and Joel Lynch not match fit, I continued with Elphick and Stam in the heart of the defence. No place for Virgo in the match squad.

The biggest shock was including 17 year old first year pro Nick Ayres on the bench. He has already made 1 (1) apps, 1 gl, av. rat. 7.00 for the first team, scoring on his career debut, but has also netted 18 times in 27 starts for the reserves.

Equally as important as our game is Southampton's tie. They are playing Bristol City (A), who are 20th and already safe from relegation by 10 points so have nothing to play for, whereas Palace will be fired up to secure a playoff spot...

Match report to follow! :)

Unbelievable, Jeff!

Brighton & Hove Albion 4 - Crystal Palace 0
Rhys Murphy (37)
Matty Fryatt (40, 48, 83)

Att. 8781

The scum didn't manage a shot on target, and we should've won by eight. Hit the bar twice, and the post, and had a number of bad misses!

Bristol City 1 - Southampton 1
Knol (OG. 88)....Kilgallon (32)

We're in the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nightmare! Two days before the playoff first leg - Wigan (A), first choice keeper and revelation Darren Randolph sustained a shoulder injury, and ruled himself out of the rest of the campaign. With Richard Kingson on-loan from Wigan, he was unavailable for selection. This left me with only Westerveld (suffering from flu, at 54%) or Kouvalainen (an unknown quantity in first team football) available.

The outcome? A thrashing, and completely outplayed on the day. Kazim-Richards scoring after a goalkeeping error from the rusty Westerveld.

Wigan Athletic 3 - Brighton & Hove Albion 0
Caleb Folan (15, 90+2)
Kazim-Richards (21)

Att. 25134

We knew we were out of the playoffs 28 seconds into the return leg, after a terrible error from Stefan Stam allowed an open goal for David Healy. Another bad mistake for their second goal eliminated any hope.

Brighton & Hove Albion 1 - Wigan Athletic 2
Jonathan Douglas (68)......David Healy (1, 80)

Att. 8816

Very unlucky to lose the return leg on the balance of play, but did nowhere near enough anyway to turn around our poor first leg performance. We bottled it!!!

We are now £904,872 in debt, and I have a nasty suspicion Dick Knight is going to accept the first offer for all our best players when the transfer window opens.

Gutted! :nono:

Turkey, is it a fair assumption that if the demo works on my computer the graphics driver on my computer is enough for the real game?

Promoted in play offs in second season after finishing fourth, beat Peterborough in the final on penalties after a 2-2 draw, only two original players I have left are Kuipers & Elphick, Arsenal are now my parent club and I have four good loans from them ahead of the new season including Jay Simpson, and I am now the parent club of Oxford United so they will be back in the league with all the 'quality' loans I have given them!

SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW:

Portsmouth declared their interest in first-choice keeper Darren Randolph, unsettling him and making him request a move. I am still haggling on a £1m offer from Portsmouth. For now he remains first choice, but I've also brought in Randolphe Roche as quality cover.

Brought in youngsters Rogers, Vives and Dobson on pre-contract deals, all are touted to become future Premier League players.

Proment looks an excellent signing in the middle of the park, playing nearly 350 games at the very top of French football. He is also a set piece specialist, which we have been crying out for.

Brought in Rhys Murphy for a second consecutive season at the club.
Borrowdale is a quality (albeit former Palace) left-back, and is straight in the first team, with Billy Jones still acting as cover.
Hewson adds a bit of guile and graft in the middle of midfield, and adds depth to the squad.

Finally, a signing I am really pleased with, Morten Petersen from Danish football. A regen left winger, who is "twice the player" of our best left-winger Lewis Neal, according to my assistant. He is only 18 and is classed as a "Future leading Premier League player".

Moving out included nine youth team scholars who failed to make the grade (or a first team appearance), Westerveld who was now fourth choice keeper, Adam Boyd who had a terrible season, and I got a very good price (and profit!) for, and Florent Pepsi on loan to Millwall for the second season running to continue his development.

Adam Virgo is likely on his way out to either Hibs or Luton for an agreed fee of £250k.

CURRENT TEAM:

My "strongest" team, as of today, the first game of the season is;

Randolph (GK), Borrowdale (LB), Senda (RB), Elphick (CB), Basle (CB), Proment (DMC), Livermore (CM), Hewson (CM), Elliott (AMR), Petersen (AML), Fryatt (ST)

CONCLUSION:

Really need to start strongly and push on from our playoff finish last season, and challenge for Premier League football.

Had a tough time of it in pre-season;

Man Utd Reserves (H) 0-1
Huddersfield (L1) (A) 3-0
Chelsea (PREM) (TV) (H) 0-2
Grimsby (L2) (A) 0-2

Made a change of formation for the Grimsby game, going with a "Chelsea-style" 4-3-3 - which paid dividends, dominating the game. Worryingly thrashed by Huddersfield due to defensive weakness.

IN OTHER NEWS:

Pat Rice is new Arsenal manager
Gary McAllister is new Fulham manager
Bryan Robson is new Wolves manager

Balance; £2,27m
Wage Budget; £44,321pw
Current; £52,611pw
Transfer money; £0

Media prediction - 11th
