I am techincally inept when it comes to computers and software.

What is the best 'file sharer' (if thats what they are called)?

I have used kazzalite and areslite in the past.

Any recommendations?

Its also written in Java, which can be useful or vomit enducing, depending on viewpoint. It runs on anything but, f***, its slow.

That said it is kinda cool to be able to run it on a TV set top box - if you've got one of the ancient Thomson Web STB's you have PJava 1.3 and can run Limewire (but not Azureus)

I ditched Kazaa ages ago. Too many duff files.
Go with Soulseek. The main page is www.slsknet.org. Much better.

It's not only the viruses you have to worry about, it's the quality of the files available. There's no patch for that. Prepare for hours of frustration downloading files that corrupt half way through.

I'm very pleased with LimeWire to be honest. Very simple to use and a good solid selection of networks to connect to. It also seems far more likely to download what I actually want than Kazaa ever did.

People keep going on about Soulseek but as yet I've had very little success with it finding anything. Am I getting it wrong or something?

I've used edonkey for a while. Has been fine so far, and I only ever get duff files when I'm downloading porn. Which serves me right.

You're not even trying.

Start worrying when you've got over 49gb worth. I've just had to buy a new 200gb SATA drive for my computer.

Beats deleting my precious precious porn anyway

WinMX, but I haven't downloaded any files for some time. I have an external 70GB Firewire drive, which I seem to have inadvertently filled up with music and films. Plus the ones that I've burned to CD. When they started prosecuting people who were considered "major sharers" - ie more than 50GB of files, I thought that I would rather not be a target!

Never had a problem with it, and I used MxMonitor as well to keep the leeches at bay. Didn't get many duff files (apart from the porn renamed stuff), and got some really obscure stuff that I didn't want to pay for!
