Barnsley does have it's fair share of celebraties though.

Geoff Boycott is from Fitzwilliam, Brian Blessed from Wath and Brian Glover from Barnsley itself as is Michael Parkinson.

Though Fitzwilliam is part of Wakefield District.
i used to do nights out in Barnsley with my Wakefield friends.

I never felt at ease. They couldn't understand me and vice versa and many took a instant dislike "Are you a copper". Since the only southerners they had encountered b4 were the Met.

Strangely enough some of my mining mates from Wakefield mining towns couldn't completely understand them.

The closure of the mines really tore the place apart. The "community spirit" in the mining villages has been replaced by meths, glue, drugs, debt collectors and general criminals. Do you really want to live in Grimethorpe?

Its militant image has not helped in attracting new new employment.

Dunno, but they sure as hell have forgotten Scotland. Still the only ground I hve visited where they refused my Scottish banknotes. I'll never forget that - wankers.
I can understand your annoyance, but Scottish notes are not legal currency in this country.(HONEST)

So? Everyone else accepts them - and how would they have felt if I had refused them their English notes up here (where they are not legal tender)?

And Dickie Bird (I think) and Darren Gough.
