It has been mentioned before, but maybe it's time for another airing. I had the privilege of looking after Horace when he died.
Brian Connolly ............proper rock star ?
Really? I always thought of him and Sweet as rather fey glam rock band, not proper rock stars at all.
Much like Mud and Showadywaddy
Rubettes too? Sugar Baby Love is my number one guilty pleasure,
Bay City Rollers too ?
I was saddened to see John Sebastian of the Lovin Spoonful in a venue in London watched by about 30 people. Musically still excellent but vocally totally shot.
It's horrible when their voices go, especially those who had great singing voices. Martha Reeves takes about 3 songs to get going now. Meat Loaf about 8 and he shakes like someone with Parkinson's to help him hold the notes. Roger Daltrey sounds rough as you like all the time.
About the best I've heard from a singer who used to have a great voice and still does is Chris Farlowe. The best blue-eyed soul singer this country has ever produced in my humble opinion and his voice is still top notch.
That was the first pub I ever drank in. I was working in a school holiday (aged 14, I think) at an insurance company just along the street and the girls in the department used to take me at lunchtimes. Happy times...
I agree about Chris Farlowe, He was on a bill at Worthing Assembly Halls a number of years ago with Manfred Mann featuring both Paul Jones and Mike D'Abo. Farlowe was excellent as was Colin Blunstone of the Zombies, in fact I enjoyed those two more than the very good Manfreds
