The most curious thing..
What is a reasonable income for retirement these days?
Given that I am used to living on and spending what I earn (which isn't enormous but is comfortable - at present), how big a financial and life-style shock is an income solely derived from a pension?
I am aware of the reduced costs of commuting, work clothes, etc, but surely some costs will go up (light and heating if you are at home all the time in winter, hobbies or whatever you do to stave off the boredom and isolation?), and some will remain the same (council tax, food etc?)

pretty poor programme trying to blame Brexit for a problem then going off and explaining decades old problems. unhelpful for retirees to be worring about somthing else rather than simple facts.

The increase in lighting/heating seems to have been marginal at most. As someone said earlier - sorry, can't remember who - one of the things to do is adopt a different approach to money - enjoy seeing how much you don't spend. For instance I buy a lot of books, but have set myself the rule never to buy one at full price - consequently I spend a lot of time in charity shops browsing and finding bargains (for instance all three of John Vinicombe's Albion books for £6 the lot). One of the things I really enjoyed was killing standing orders and direct debits - you'll be amazed at how many are still paying out for things you no longer want.

Yep, that's exactly it. We halved our outgoings before we retired. I used to spend a fair bit on actually working; season ticket, lunches, socialising at lunchtime and after work.

No, we halved them in the year before we retired. We moved money out of our main account to leave just what we expected to get from a pension and then had a trial run for a year.
