I get annoyed when watching England the amount of bad press Heskey get, hes not a huge goal scorer but when he plays with Owen up front he is a great diversion for Owen and Beckham and always gets assists.

What does everyone else think, coz I think hes good for England.

I don't rate him in the slightest unfortunately we don't really have an alternative, why did shearer have to retire form international football as he would still be class with owen.

I like him.

I am of the opinion that every game we should play with the taem that beat Germany 5-1 in Munich, its the best performance i've ever seen and by that logic they should play every game. Might not make sense to you but it does to me.

I totally agree and i think Erricson does actually try to do that, whilst finding the best solution for the left midfield !!

I'd have thought Murphy would be the player to take the left wing position, in Germany i believe it was Barmby who is a similar player.

This would make the line up

James (instead of Seaman)
G Neville
Ferdinand
Campbell
A.Cole
Beckham
Gerrard
Scholes
Murphy
Owen
Heskey

I feel sorry for the fella because he gets played out of position so much. If I have ever seen a centre-forward who should ONLY play centre-forward it is him. He's big strong and battles well for the ball, and wins his share of headers.

Could you ever imagine Joe Jordan, John Fashanu or Bob Latchford playing left wing? Nah, and neither should Emile Heskey. Until he returns to playing that role, and only that role, I feel the criticism he gets is very harsh.

Having said that, I feel his confidence is low at the moment and would pick Beattie ahead of him.

Rooney? I'd throw him on from the bench to liven things up in the last 20 mins rather than starting with him and Owen.

IMHO, I can't believe Sven hasn't given Barry a go in left midfield.

England should play 3-5-2. We don't have a left winger. We need to learn to live with it. I'd go:

Robinson (GK)
Dyer (RWB)
Campbell (CD)
Ferdinand (CD)
Woodgate (CD)
Cole (LWB)
Beckham (CM)
Gerrard (CM)
Scholes (CM)
Rooney (CF)
Owen (CF)

His goal record is woeful and he rarely looks a threat. He's strong and fast but never uses those attributes.

Shouldn't even be in the squad IMO.

As Heskey plays with Owen at club level they have a good level of understanding that helps at all levels. He may not score many but does act as the perfect foil to Owen to set up goals. Maybe it's because the defenders are too busy laughing at his incompetance.

Rooney is a second half sub to take on a knackered defence.

I'm with Gritt23 he gets played out of position too much. He's an old-fashioned hustle and bustle centre-forward. End of. If you want to play an old-fashioned centre-forward he's still the best we've got in that position - although I grant you he wouldn't make an all-time England 11. Playing him wide-left is as good as putting him in goal.

Having said that I would like to see England play with a bit more guile as opposed to just relying on Owen chasing long balls and Heskey trying to audition for the Frank Bruno role in a Christmas Pantomime.
