I hope that it's ok to post this on here?

I received a sad message today regarding Mr Waller the ex PE teacher from school. I have been asked to spread the word about a get together that's happening on Sunday next and here was the only place that I could think of where the most people will get to know about the arrangement so apologies if I have broken any rules.

This was the message that I received:

Hi Chris. Sorry to message you out of the blue like this. I don't know if you have heard, but Martyn Waller is sadly very ill. Things are not looking good for him.

He has a wish that before it's too late, he can meet up with as many of his ex pupils as possible, especially those who were involved in sport during his time at Deason/Marina High/COMART.

On this coming Sunday between 4 and 6, he has booked the clubhouse at the rugby club at Waterhall. If you are free, I know he would really appreciate seeing you.

I went to see him last Wednesday and although he is clearly very unwell, he is the same Martyn Waller we have always known, with the sense of humour and decency we have all come to know.

If you are in touch with any other ex-students, maybe you could pass this message on. It would be great if we could get a bumper turn out for him.

Hope you are well

Richard

It would be great if anyone that remembers him could make it

Very sad to see he is in such a bad way. Not sure I will be able to make it, but will try to get along.
Mr Waller & Mr Field were the best thing about that school. A brilliant double act. (Apart from when they made us do the long distance running )

I thought he'd moved to Spain, he must have come home quite recently. He was my sports master for a number of years.

Very sad news but Mr Waller sadly lost his fight against cancer today!

Thoughts with his family and friends

A truly great teacher who did lots of great work in the community. He helped out with my Duke of Edinburgh's Award, the kind of thing so readily overlooked when people so readily dismiss the work of teachers and whine about their holidays.

I was fortunate enough to see him on Sunday and for those of you who maybe knew him and couldn't make it I can tell you he loved every single minute. It seems quite clear to me that he was holding on for that one last opportunity to be amongst his pupils.

On an Albion note, he nurtured the talent of a young Stuart Tuck, a Brighton boy who went on to captain the club and play in the most important match in the clubs history.

In the words of Mr Waller "it looks a bit grim lads" but I'm sure he's content after Sunday. A great teacher and a lovely bloke.

RIP Sir
