O/T: Bush vs. Kerry Round Two

Well, with the last election Gore made the mistake in the first debate of visibly showing the contempt he had for Bush, that didn't play well with the viewers. In an attempt to make up for it the next debate (and the VP debate) was one massive lovefest which really didn't help either. So although Bush looked like a gibbering dullard he managed to come out of the debates looking good. A large part of the Bush stategy was to lower expectations before the debates so the fact he managed to string together a whole sentence was considered a major victory. Gore "misunderestimated" him.
He couldn't get away with it this time around because people are expecting him to have grown and matured after 4 years in office. At the first debate this time around he looked like a whiney ("It's hard work"), pouting kid.
Also remember that in 2000 nobody was really that interested in the election. Nobody thought there was much difference in the candidates and either one would be mostly fine. Boy, were they ever wrong!! This time around I think we can expect record turnout.

Gore made an AWFUL mistake also, in not standing by the policies of the Clinton presidency. He was so busy letting everyone know how repugnant he felt about the Lewinsky scandal, and 'distancing' himself from the very bloke who gave him the vice-presidency that no-one could admire his lack of loyalty to party and fellow politician. He forgot to mention that the Republicans were happy to grind the USA to a halt for 2 years in order to try and impeach Clinton !!
Let's face it, the selfish ambitions of the Reps doesn't rise to the best thing for their country at home or abroad.

Thankfully, there are hopeful signs that US voters for once aren't swallowing this bullshit - let's hope.

Sadly, the Republicans are a desparate lot, and defiantly obstinate when it comes to admitting that their king has no clothes. The crux will be that the voters who were lazy last time contain a majority of pissed-off-with-bush citizens, and those that are now determined to vote will overshadow the ones who think bush is doing the right thing. There are a lot of warmonger Americans who think that bombing ANY foreigners in their own land is a better option than risking paranoia and unsurety at home.

(Who cares about genocide of millions in Africa too, it's incidental and they are another world away from us. We have more important screw-ups to attend to right now)

A good point. Clinton is an excellent campaigner and Gore should have used him more, but he was busy trying to avoid being tained by the Lewinski scandal. It left him in a very difficult position.

Indeed, Clinton's tenure was very successful DESPITE everything that went on to scandalise him openly. There are thoughts that several presidents had affairs and such before Clinton, but the Reps were so eager to discredit him, they left the best interests of the country far behind.

Remember Larry Flint the porn 'king' exposing the Republican's proposed speaker ? Well actually, he said he would not expose him because he had a family unless he stepped down (which he did very rapidly!!).
You have to worry when Larry Flint takes the moral high ground over a political party - that's the Republicans for you!

On the subject of Larry Flynt, I read his book a few months ago. I thoughtly recommend it. It had some interesting stuff about the hypocrisy of the people who were trying to bring down Clinton.

The Republicans attitude to Bill Clinton had nothing to do with the rights and wrongs of his affair and everything to do with there unshakeable belief that it is their god-given right to rule the free world and anything they do in pursuit of this goal is justifiable.
