Anyone know how it works when your dispute a payment taken from your bank account from a company.

For example i brought a Galvin Green jacket from an online company and now there trying to wriggle out of giving me a refund by trying to re-word their t&c, even though they never actually delivered it to my address. Long story but basically Golfperformance.co.uk are a bunch of pricks.

Note: I checked the new 'specialist' thread but no-one is a specialist in refunds :)

I've had similar issues with internet purchases on my credit card, the cc company will want some proof that the issue has had a reasonable attempt at being resolved with the retailer. However in the end they sent me a disputed purchase form which freezes the purchase on my CC with no interest being charged, it is then up to the retailer to proof they are in the right. It took about 3 months but in the end the charge came off of the credit card, I believe in my case the retailer just failed to respond in time to the query.

I would be quite surprised if there wasn't some form of similar protection for debit card purchases. Certainly I've had money taken out of my account fraudulently and the bank were really good at sorting that with no problems for me apart from the inconvenience of cancelling cards, etc. I suggest you give your bank a call as they will be better placed to advise you on what protection you have with your account type.

Contact the disputes department of your bank. They may or may not be able to attempt a 'chargeback'. At the end of the day, there is no guaranteed protection on your debit/credit cards. They are just a method of payment.

If you used a credit card and the item is over £100.00 you can hold the bank jointly and severally liable for breach of contract and/or misrepresentation but that is another story.
