I've been called to do jury service - a new experience.

Anyone else been there? What happens? How does it work? Does my company still have to pay me while I'm away?

Any information much appreciated.

I've been twice.
It's very boring.
You're company isn't obliged to pay for you while you're away, but most will. If they don't the court will pay you, up to a certain limit, depending on the location of the court.
You also get extra expences such as a travel, lunch allowance (about £2.20) and extra meal allowances if you have to stay late.

Most of the time you won't even have to go in, but expect to arrive at 09:30, only to be sent home again after about 2 hours.

Oh, and I sent them both down!

What he said.

I did a manslaughter at the Old Bailey - we let him off and I've never been called again !

I did it a couple of years ago. It was very enlightening, most of the jurors were very dedicated and attentive, although there was a racist scum who wouldn't listen to medical evidence as it was from an African doctor and as such couldn't be trusted.

I was foreman and in one of the cases, I managed to correct the clerk of the court when she got the charges muddled up. Very satisfying.

I did three cases: found two guilty and two not guilty (two defendants in the last one)

One of our salesman has got jury service next week in Portsmouth. We've been using a spare SIM to send him anonymous text messages warning him "to let Sparky off, or else" - he's bricking it :lolol:
