NSC Official Poetry Competition: 'The Withdean Experience'

will-smith-the-fresh-prince-of-bel-air.jpg

Now this is the story all about how
brighton got stiffed and run out of town
and i'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how the mighty seagulls were in the depths of despair

In the withdean stadium bored and dazed
in the sportsman was where I spent most of my pay
chilly wet taxing
no relaxin not cool
and sitting in H block surrounded by fools

When a couple of stewards, they were up to no good
picking on me and the lads in hoods
I got in one altercation and told to sit down
i said go f*** yourself you jumped up clown

I whistled for a burger and when it got near
the thing was still alive and there was piss in my beer
if anything I could say the toilets were fair
but I though wait a minute theres jizz in my hair

I got back to my car about 7 or 8
I said to the bus driver could we be any later
he said wait for the amex as we are almost there
wel'll soon be sitting top of the barclays premieeeerr[

 What a jolly thread! Nice to have one where nobody is going off on a hissy fit, didn't know that there was so much literary talent on NSC!

The Withdean Years

Let's go back to the very start
Dazzling Darren's hatrick tore Mansfield apart
Halcyon days under Micky 'part 1'
The Withdean story had just begun

Dodge, Charlie, Cullip, and of course Bobby Z
Back to back Championships, and hearts full of glee
Then back to reality, a real baptism of fire
Hinsh came and went, Albion down in the mire

Coppell was appointed, some fans openly wept
Yet he won their respect, and up the table we crept
Heartbreak at the seasons end, as we narrowly went down
Exit Coppell, enter McGhee, the Scotsman was in town

A diminutive forward who's star burnt so bright
30 goals in the season from young Leon Knight
30,000 strong over the border and into Wales
1 - 0 to the Albion, straight back up, happy tales

A year of stability followed in the 'old' division 2
Then heartbreak again, relegation and tears in the loo
Farewell McGhee, replaced by Deano
Who assembled the kids, still reading the beano

The boys became men, and served the club proud
Nearly making the play offs for crying out loud
Yet Wilkins was sacked and sent on his way
Time for Micky 'part 2' a return to glory days?

Alas it was not, the football was dire
Barely 9 months had passed, no longer the Messiah
Adams replaced by Russell Slade
Could he step up and make the grade?

Emphatically yes, the Albion stayed up
With passion, and flair, and a little luck
Unfortunately for Russell that was as good as it got
And a poor early season meant that was his lot

So who was next for the Albion, who would get the nod?
To Montevideo, and a South American god
Pass and move football, how the game should be played
Most teams faced, put to the sword and slayed

So with Falmer on the horizon the future looks bright
A new chapter dawns for the Blue & White
But lest we forget our theatre of trees
It gave us a home, and some great memories

I may be a little biased but I thought that was pretty damn good....
