Perhaps I have bitten, but does NSC have more than its fair share of moaners and numbskulls? Just been reading some of the posts on this board over the past few days and some of them are laughable. This week should go down as one of the defining moments in the clubs history. One of re-birth almost as a proper football club.
I for one looked enviously on as Reading and other clubs were taken over by a sugar daddy and invested in and taken to higher levels. I just wished for someone to do the same with Brighton.
Lo and behold my prayers were answered. Tony Bloom arrives and basically pays for our stadium and secures our future. Even better, the guy is a bona fide fan.
Yet people still moan.
Moan about Dick Knight ( and to be quite frank, some of it is disgusting and tedious i.e Ernest rubbish). That somehow the Falmer project was in jeopardy and that Dick Knight somehow lied. Cant see how he lied when all he said was that the “funding is in place and the funds are flowing”. Yes, due to the credit crunch the preferred option with the banks couldn’t happen. I suppose Dick Knight should have known about the impending financial mess the world has found itself in. But Tony Bloom was on the board throughout the whole process and would have needed to convince Brighton Council that if plan A failed he would step in as guarantor. So Dick didn’t lie, funding was in place, except it was plan B. Falmer was never in jeopardy, unless something happened to Tony Bloom or had never existed.
Some of the flak that Dick Knight has received has been bang out of order. I wont give Ernest the benefit of the doubt that he is some kind of wind up merchant. Some of the crap that he has spouted over the past so many years has been spiteful at best. Dick Knight came into the Albion at its darkest hour. I don’t recall anyone else coming to the clubs rescue. Without Dick Knight, there simply would not be an Albion now to invest in.
Even during Dicks reign, what a journey we have been on. Two championships, play off final win, playing in the championship. Yes, we have relegations too. But aren’t they part and parcel of football? A club that plays in a craphole of a ground, yet most L1 and L2 clubs and fans would have loved for what we achieved.
There are moans about Tony Bloom having sole ownership. Jeeps, its his money. I think he is entitled to have the majority share. In the same situation all of us would. Obviously, we as fans need to inspect and ask awkward questions of Tony at the appropriate times.
Those that moan about season tickets. I cant believe that people moan about it. If you think they are too steep, not worth it. Simple don’t buy one, but don’t bloody go on about it.
Cant certain individuals start to grow up. We are about to embark on an exciting chapter in the clubs history. If you cant enjoy that, then maybe you support the wrong club.
Rant over.
