Good to see Dan "The Man" Wasson get 90 minutes

Minnesota NSC'ers: I promise I'm not going to ask this every week (as it'll just get annoying), but how did he get on last night?

Wasson had a good, physical game. He isn't the biggest guy but he pulls his weight and keeps his head in that kind of game. The midfield didn't really play the measured passing build-up that we've seen in the past, it was more of a scramble, so Wasson was working hard all game. He didn't foul a single time, and played all 90 minutes. Great discipline.

Portland are headed to play with the big boys in the MLS next year and this is our first year, so we're claiming the moral high ground. That doesn't help us in terms of getting to the playoffs though...

Well folks, our beloved NSC MN Stars drew against the Portland Timbers 2-2 tonight. The Stars scored first with a nice goal by Ely Allen off a nice chip over the backline from Gotmanov. There really was a lack of creativity by both teams for most of the first half. However, with time winding down Portland evened the tally around the 45th minute.

In the second half, Portland came out charging hard. Portland went up 2-1 in the 62nd minute after Lorenz fouled a player in the penalty box. Shortly thereafter, a Timbers player was sent off for a cheap foul on Moura toward the middle of the field. Our esteemed coach, Manny Lagos was also sent off for throwing a fit. It was classic!!!

About five minutes later, Simone Bracalello subbed in for Tarley and scored a nice goal directly off a corner kick—it was a great header into the back of the Timbers net.

Following this goal, the Stars played more aggressive—they were up a man, and had several nice shots on net, but were not able to win the game. The Stars really needed three points tonight, however, one point is better than none, eh?

Overall, not the best game for the Stars, however, it was not the worst. Allen showed some flair and did play a good match. I hope he sees more playing time. Gotmanov had been plagued by injury at the beginning of the season and only recently has been seeing more playing time. With his performance tonight, I think he proved that he deserves a starting spot. Bracalello made a difference in the match—scoring a fine goal after five minutes on the pitch. That is really what subs need to do, right? Tarley had a nice shot on net in the 6th minute, but beyond that was a non-factor. Our backline (Lorenz, The Wrangler, Altman and Friedland) are playing better, but are still making some mistakes that have resulted in goals. Joe Warren is a stud!

The Stars play Vancouver this Saturday at 7pm (central—US time). You can watch it on the WWW at NSC Minnesota Stars

Cheers!
