My prediction is that The Jam are going to win this.

Objectively it should be the Beatles but there you go.
How you can have blur but not oasis is confusing. Blur aren't even the biggest or best of the britpop era

No Beatles, no Coldplay this is the conference league of bands.

If Genesis don't win then we need to turn this competition off. Then Turn It On Again.

I think if you were aiming for “biggest”, you’d bring in Led Zeppelin, Oasis, The Police, Coldplay, for the likes of Talk Talk, XTC, Hawkwind.

The Who also of course, although I’ve always personally found them monstrously overrated.

thanks for doing this @Mellotron, it looks like a lot of work for little thanks. I missed the nomination stage but I think it's a good line-up, you can't please everyone. I hear there's a rebel tour being set-up but it can't get funding :

Ignore all the whinging @Mellotron , this will be a HUMDINGER of a contest.

Group H is like a champions league group of Real Madrid, Man Utd, AC Milan and Bayern Munich.

Luckily group B is not quite so forbidding. I don't rate my manics chances o doing much in the competition but that group has at least given them half a chance of progressing to the knock outs.

At least if any of the old whinging bastards have any sense. Which they probably don't. Being as they're old whinging buggers and all.

f*** me, the UK has produced a LOT of good music.

Perhaps we’ll go crazy and go to 48 or 64 next time.

I think the minnows need some sort of pre qualifying competition.

Great band The Minnows.

Any band who can come out with I Can't Explain and Quadrophenia are right up there for me.

I am told you are able to start threads on stuff of your choice. You could start one of the genres you believe are missing.

You could even start your own competition.
That's not my point. There are indeed threads on Jazz, Ambient, to name just two genres.

My point is the arrogance of using words like 'best' and 'greatest' and then only apply them to Rock & Pop.

Either Rock & Pop needs stating, or 'best' and 'greatest' needs dropping for 'favourite'. Simple. Or else the cultural arrogance continues.

Just nominate the London Philharmonic or something then.

Best band I saw at Glastonbury when I went a few years ago were the Black Dyke Band. Comfortably.
