Too right Albiongirl. I thought I was the only person who's album collection contained such a diversity as Metallica, the Classic FM Hall of Fame, Shakira (Spanish & English), most of the Euphoria Collection and Kulashaker, to mention just a few of the genres. No Garage though. Pile of shite.

I put rock, I suppose I'm a bit of a rocker at heart.

Can listen to almost anything in moderation, my collection has such diverse stuff as Sex Pistols to Genesis to Motown, Simply Red, Kool and the Gang, Status Quo and Thin Lizzie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rush, Stones, glam rock, some eighties jazz funk. Just can't be doing with modern dance stuff though, far to repetitive and manufactured. Real music has blokes with guitars and drums etc.

I really get pissed of with "bands" that consist of a few people that can sing and dance a bit. Bands need instruments and musicians!

In my defence, I was left unsupervised.

Well I'll be blowed, so there's a whole generation of kids growing up who think that Booker T is a disco diva. A definite misappropriation of the label then, I thought R 'n' B nowadays might stand for something like Rhyme 'n' Bass to cover rapping dance tracks.

It's a bit like claiming Perry Como is punk rock.

I went for Rock, cos it averaged out for my favoourite, but I guess like most people I'll listen to lots of different music (except opera).

Indie or rock for me.

I'm a rocker at heart, be it classic, metal or punk. I've just discovered (about 10 years late) Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish and NOFX and they are dominating my play lists at the moment

But I like most types of music except modern r'n'b, somewhat bizarrely I also own several Fairport Convention albums, how many people on here are going to admit to that?

Apologies for the cut and paste but it's exactly as I understood
rhythm and blues to be

When did soul music and motown become rhythm and blues?

RHYTHM AND BLUES

A term used for different post-war American popular music forms derived from Blues and characterized by an upbeat and good vibe. This term was coined by Billboard magazine's journalist Jerry Wexler in 1947, and it was the consequence of the transformation of the rural culture to the urban culture. Rhythm and Blues stands for Blues with a faster rhythm and introduced a the most danceable and popular side of the style to the audiences.
Some of the pioneers of the genre where Louis Jordan, Amos Milburn, Floyd Dixon, Charles Brown Howlin' Wolf , Count Basie, Jimmy Witherspoon, T-Bone Walker, and Joe Turner.
During the 60's Rhythm and Blues arrived to the UK, and a "white" new scene was born with artists like The Rolling Stones, Spencer Davis Group, The Yardbirds, Van Morrison, Alexis Korner, Manfred Mann, and The Animals.

Voted Dance but really there isn't a genre I can't pick at least one piece of music from that I adore. The two least are probably metal and Country but...

Heavy Metal: GnR - Paradise City or Motorhead - Ace of Spades
C & W: Greg Brown - Blue Car

..hardly begins to scratch the surface of excellent music in those pidgeon holes.

And again I agree with dwayne (twice in 2 days). While my soul and RnB tastes are towards the older (old Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye) and obscure (david Holmes mix album) both D'Angelo and Omar have made some superb music.
