ok you people know who you are! and this morning you must feel very confused to how you will slag off paul scholes today

sadly for your your only ever excuse has dissapeared over night. he has scored so now you must think of a new way to slag off this great midfielder.

theres no way we could get rid of any of the midfielders. we have by far the best mifield four (teamwork wise) and individually they can produce some fantastic passes and shots. so lets stop slagging off scholes and back the boys to victory!

just because he scored it does'nt make him great again! in the run up to Euro he was shit, but in the 3 games so far he has passed and bullied his way through the game very well indeed and last nights goal was a deserved bonus for him. Gary Neville, another one who has mysteriously found a decent bit of form, he's had a couple of blinding matches which most people seem to miss, even Ashley Cole done some good things last night!

Anyway back to the point, you can still be shit and score...but in this case Scholes is playing very well and got a goal...good on him!

i think you have misunderstood my point of view on this one.

what im saying is he was fantastic anyway but people would slag him off because he didnt score! i always felt THAT HE WAS OUR MOST NATURALLY GIFTED MIDFIELDER. BY FAR THE BEST AWARNESS AND PASSER OF THE BALL. he is fantatstic even if he never scored again but now i feel that hios confidence is back in his shooting abilitys and we will see and EVEN BETTER scholes!

come on england!

Scholes did ok last night. He should have scored from that first chance he had, he could hardly miss his goal and he scuffed another shot. Also a fussier referee would have booked him for one of several two-footed lunges he did - if a foreigner did it we'd all hate him.

Saying that he's done ok playing out of position but I'm not going to rave about him. Six out of ten.

to answer your question...of course not,NO

I tell it as I see it. If he plays crap, I will say so, if like last night he has a decent game I will also say it as I did on the thread below.

For what its worth, I think if it wasn't Collina last night scholes would have been sent off for the two footed lunge.

But it is not a day to critisise, but to celebrate and that we must and will do.

For what its worth, id like to point out that not everyone having a go at Scholes did so due to a lack of goals. Ive moaned about him, but dont give a hoot if he scores or not - thats not his job and if he does its a bonus. The problem with Scholes is that he's played in completely the wrong position out on the left. He's also had a couple of games where his passing has been poor and his tackling has been woefull. He improved greatly last night, primarily because he was switched inside. But he is still a long way from his top form. At 29, im not sure he'll find it again, and wouldnt be surprised if he's no longer 1st team at the World Cup.

(that should ruffle a few feathers...)

IMHO Scholes had a crap first game against France (playing him out of position wide on the left didn't help), he was a little better against Switzerland but no where near the Scholes of old.
Last night against Croatia he did almost everything right and appears to have found his form again (and of course he scored!). He is currently playing streets ahead of Beckham, but is not matching the consistency of Lampard or Gerrard ... maybe after last night he will get even better and score a hat-trick in the final against the frogs.
I hope so, because he has been a fine player for his club and country.

Unquestionably a great player when he is on his game. But he hasn't been, has he? I agree he had a good game last night, but that doesn't mean he has played well in the tournament so far - he gave away the ball in the France game much too often. I was one among several on this board who questioned his France performance but received a berating for 'listening to office gossip', when everybody I work with was saying he was a brilliant against France. He wasn't.

But I will happily (and I mean happily) applaud him for last night's performance. Not because of his goal (irrelevant) but because of his all-round play.
