Worth a digging up of this thread, see that Villa are now within visual range of the playoffs.....anybody having a change of heart of the teams they see as the threat,Derby for all that run they had seem as far away as ever...

I can't wait to see us have a run of 5,6 or 7 wins on the spin.

Nonononononononono, one game at a time........

I don't see any one team as more of a threat than another at the moment. Any team in the top 6/8 could put a strong run together and we could slip. Maybe the stripey skunks are going to slip after today. Who knows. Let's just beat QPR.

QPR are our biggest threat. We have to play them twice and the other teams only once.

If Villa overhaul us from this position , we don't deserve to be anywhere near the Premier League. Our biggest threat is an implosion ourselves, which, with CH in charge, I would be very surprised to see happen. Getting results when we aren't playing well is the hallmark of a successful side. I'm not being arrogant, but I would be very disappointed if we don't finish top 2 from here.

Two home games with massive home crowds against fairly poor opposition in poor form, they've lost 5 on the bounce and we've won 3, both managed by people who have caused us plenty of misery in the past, with the negative pressure of (nearly) the whole of the chasing pack getting maximum points, and the positive pressure of newcastle losing meaning we can finish the year in pole position with 50+ points.

Very nervous personally, if we come out of this with 6pts I will genuinely start believing that 2017 could (possibly) be a very happy one.

If we finish with 89 points again, do you think we'd deserve to be in the PL?

Pretty much all the good teams are in touching distance of the top 6. They are all a threat. However we have a slightly easier set of games in the the second half of the season having played some of the hardest away games already. We are ahead and just need to keep going. A win today and 40 points from the second half of the season might do it. For now it's one game at a time counting up to 90 points. We should of course be aiming for 100 points and the league title, but that's a long way away at the moment.

Personally I'd like to see another strike option coming in who can add at least 5-10 goals .

I have been saying that Villa will still be the main threat along with Newcastle and at least one other vying for top 2.... it's a long season and that bloody last game is looking to be a biggun.

This is a ridiculously tough division and you can be sure there will be another 1 or 2 sides within touching distance of the top two at some point later in the season.
No way will us and Newcastle be miles clear like this forever this season....plenty of twists to come but I think we will make it though although if Murray gets crocked we will struggle to get goals from our back up strikers sadly.

Another roller coaster ride and love it :)

When we next lose people will worry but no need to as every club will lose games and it's about how you react after losing :)

We need another quality striker and with pace or a centre forward/attacking midfielder.

I can't see Villa being a threat. If we win today they will be 17 points behind us. If we drop that many points then we will be struggling to make the playoffs and Villa will be the last of our worries. Personally think Reading and Leeds are the biggest challenges with the outsider being Derby if they continue their excellent form into January.

This all day long. Time for Tony to take the gamble and sign another top striker in January, especially if Manu is going. We are unlikely to be in a better position and promoted teams nearly always make that one key signing in January to get them over the line

I'm predicting the exact oppo. The 1 and 2 will clearly run away with the league and there will be a wider gap between 2 and 3 than the 5 points that separate the Albion and Reading at the beginning of today.

Win our game in hand today and Villa are 17 behind with 23 to play.

That is a heck of a catchup needed.

Great thread to support the regular "How many points do we need?" discussions...

There are several teams between about 10/1 and 40/1 chances to overhaul us at the moment. Which of those is most likely will obviously fluctuate with results. Currently it is Massive :lolol: followed by Derby...

If we can just pick up 2pts a game average for another four Championship months then the chasers will ALL be kept at arms length and we'll push the Geordies hard for the title.

I'm sure its already been said but our biggest threat is ourselves.

We have already proved that we are a match for anyone in this division. We need to hope that key players stay free from injury and keep the card count down.

Worry about ourselves all we can do. We had a 8 point gap to third let's keep that today and enjoy hopefully being top. Long way still to go even after today but 39 from the remaining 23 would see us home I believe
