From the BBC:

Swindon stadium blow

Swindon say they need to leave the County Ground to progress
Swindon's hopes of building a 20,000-seater stadium in the west of the town were effectively ended on Thursday.
Councillors voted to keep a community forest at Shaw Park, meaning the club will have to look for a new site.

Robins director Bob Holt told BBC Radio Swindon: "It is going to be a bitter disappointment for us all.

"I find I'm just a bit shocked really that we weren't allowed to put in a proper proposal, but the council must do what they feel fit with the land."

The Shaw Park project met with opposition from the outset from some fans and local residents objecting to the loss of green space.

But Swindon chairman Willie Carson had pleaded for more time to make amendments to the proposal, which he felt could overcome the objections.

He has warned that the club needs to leave their current County Ground home "to move forward, not just simply survive".

Developers St Mowden say they would now like to approach the council and ask for alternative sites for the stadium.

I was half-way through starting this thread when I got distracted by a conversation about how practical plastic gardens could be. I intended to post this before the mention in the other thread.

I wouldn't see any parallel with BHAFC though, our needs are greater, our claim stronger, and their site sounds far more ecologically invasive.

Let's not dilute The Albion's cause with such comparisons - better to align ours with the likes of Hull, where success and city profile have been notably increased .

I wasn't drawing a parallel. My point was that a lot of people on here have been moaning that every other team in the country who wants to build a new stadium gets it. This isn't true, also remember that the likes of Liverpool and Everton have been muttering about new stadiums for years too.

You could Barnet to that list. They've been battling for a new stadium for years.

There seems to be a simple rule here for new stadia here which is :

In the North ? OK, where would you like to build it ?

In the South ? Not in a million years mate, forget it...

An exception being Southampton, who were 'allowed' to build on a former gasworks brownfield site in the dock area.

Arsenal are also one of the biggest, richest clubs in the country.

Brighton, Swindon and Barnet dont have the fan base or finances to match.

There is a huge difference between want and need.

Other teams want a new stadium

We NEED one.
