Excellent news for Sussex cricket.

Glynde and Beddingham today beat Dinton (Buckinghamshire) by five wickets in the quarter final of the nPower National Village Cricket competition.

They now face a home tie in the semi final and a trip to Lords if they win that.

I got excited then. I started thinking/hoping the T20 Finals Day had been moved to Lords.

Great news indeed.
We just got back from the game ,which was very exciting and watched by a large crowd(probably a majority of us away fans....).
Come and see the boys fight for a final place a week on sunday.
:clap2:

The semi-final at Glynde on Sunday 9 August will be against the winners of the quarterfinal between Miskin Manor (Glamorgan) and Cresselly (Pembrokeshire), which was postponed until next Sunday, because of rain today in Cresselly.

:bounce:

Chuck-off is at 2.00 pm on Sunday 9 August.

Glynde one step from Lord's From The Argus)

Glynde one step from Lord's

Skipper Adam Davies insists it is all about who holds their nerve as Glynde eye a place at Lord’s.

Glynde entertain Welsh side Cresselly on Sunday in the semi-final of the npower National Village Cup.

The prize for the winners is a place in the final at Lord’s on Monday September 14. Despite entering every season since the competition was launched in 1973, Glynde have never reached the final.

They have won the Sussex group on numerous occasions but their best effort was reaching the quarter-finals on 2006.

Davies is delighted they have gone one further than that already but knows it will count for nothing if they lose on Sunday.

He said: “In many respects this is the final, that is how we are treating it. The reward is to go to Lord’s.

“We don’t know much about them (Cresselly) but they are only 11 other players. We have told our players to go out and do their best and nine times out of ten in this cup it will be enough.

“There may be some nerves but the Welsh team will be feeling it just as much and they have got to travel five hours.”

Cresselly are currently second in the Antur Insurance Pembrokeshire County League division one and reached the semi-final with a 24-run defeat of Miskin Manor in a rearranged quarter-final tie last Sunday.

Glynde, who play in Sussex League division three east, have been in tremendous form in this competition, reaching the last four with a comfortable five-wicket defeat of Dinton from Buckinghamshire when Mark Beddis took a hat-trick.

They are expecting a big turnout for Sunday’s match, which starts at 2pm.

Davies added: “The further we have gone the more support we have got.”

Whereas da Glynde boyz are so don (giovanni).

A splendid - if somewhat one-sided - afternoon's cricket.

Glynde and Beddingham 241/7 (40 ov)
Cresselly 122 all out (33.2 ov)

Glynde and Beddingham win by 121 runs.

A fine day at Lords awaits on Monday 14 September.

Sheepdog?
He'd like to be ... but he's not. He's a Jack Russell terrier (no relation to the great wicket keeper).

Funny you should ask, though. On the way back from the cricket at Glynde, we came across three rams, wandering around in the road, about 100 yards from Bracknell Towers. Without the help of the dog, Roz and I corralled them into a piece of roadside woodland. A quick phone call to the local sheep farmer (Mr Barr - and he's featured on NSC before, if people don't believe a sheep farmer can really be called Baaaa) and they were reunited with their field.

It was only the fact that they were rams, not ewes, that meant we didn't return to Glynde and invite a few disappointed Welshmen over for an evening's "entertainment".

:sheep:

The final at Lords on Monday 14 September will be against Streethouse, from West Yorkshire.

Glynde have never got past the quarter-finals before. Streethouse were losing semi-finalists in 2003.
