Looked into this yesterday whilst the site was closed to the great un-washed...
For some reason there is a 20-40 second lag between the request being sent to the server and the server giving a response. Once this connection is made the pages load very quickly.
Pages on the main Album site load very quickly, there is no lag in connecting to the site. This points at a problem probably with the part of the server that deals with the board. (Maybe a database problem or a cgi problem or, or or, etc.) its being investigated with the service provider and with people who know more than me and Boz on PHP and mySQL. (not hard in my case I know nothing.)
So if anyone has specialist knowledge on these subjects please make yourself know to Boz ASAP.
I've also taken the decision to move to another host - somewhere where we get bucket loads of bandwidth more than we do currently, so won't have to pay through the nose when we blow the bandwidth limit like we do at the moment.
I'll try and keep NSC live here for as long as possible but, assuming we do move home, there will be an inevitable downtime period in between - I will try and keep that as short as possible.
I've been on and off in NSC all night Japan time - I've got broadband and I don't pay for it as so the time to load is more an annoyance than an actual cost problem or something that would get me sacked.
I have experienced at least 10 "CGI Limits Exceeded - please try later" error messages which I've only ever got once before, on one of NSC's busy days.
I wasn't sure what this meant so typed CGI Limits in to Google and got a wealth of techie type message boards back, all of which have some info on CGI, php and mySQL.
Unfortunately to me they may as well have been in Japanese - I understood 5% of it. But they may be able to help you guys?
Apologies if this is no help. My background is testing - great for finding problems, absolutely feckin useless at fixing them.
