A suggestion, maybe, for some of you - head west on Southern west coast route to Havant, then change for South Western train to Waterloo which goes via Guildford and Clapham Junction. It will probably add an hour or so to your original journey time but may be worth it in the end.

Be careful if doing this though as South West Trains don’t always stop at Clapham so you might need to either change at Woking or go to Waterloo then back out.
