RIP - Saw them 'live' and he was a terrific drummer. And as the OP states, the break in Atomic is sensational... will be listening to that on the way home.

RIP Clem. Saw him do the most amazing thing I've ever seen a drummer do, at a Blondie gig at Hammersmith Odeon, maybe 1979 or something. Whacked his drumstick off his snare drum in such a way that it sent it spinning about 20 foot into the air. Caught it on the way back down without missing so much as a beat. Astounding skills

Yup. I was there. Memorable for two reasons:

1) The only one of probably a few hundred punk / new wave / ska gigs I went to when sitting in your seat was rigoursly enforced by beefy, brainless scurity staff and

2) Having a chat with Bob Geldof spotted in an alcove at the back.

But I can't remember what I had for lunch today!

RIP Clem. And thank you.

Excellent drummer. Remember band walking closely past a couple of us as we tried to sneak through back door of gig in Jan ‘80. To say they looked chilled, particularly DH, was an understatement.

4 drummers have made a big impression on me in my life, they're now all gone with the final two just recently:

John Bonham, Neil Peart, Rick Buckler and now Clem Burke.

Very sad news, he may have been 70 but he was a young 70.
